Assignment: Making a Difference in Philadelphia
Due Date: February 14, 2013
Preproduction (Research):
 Shoot Date- Depending on weather, Feb 4-9
 Story Angle- History plus Graffiti equals one huge and colorful difference in
Philadelphia; the Murals painted around the city gives viewers a glimpse into history and
highlights people within the community giving a sense of camaraderie. The Mural Arts
Program began in 1984 as an Anti-Graffiti Network and was transformed into the Murals
Art Program by Jane Golden, whom convinced the artist to put their illegal work to good
use. There are more than 3,000 murals around the city and each has a story of their own.
The program not only makes a difference with the look of Philadelphia but also with the
community by working with at risk youth and criminals to provide restorative healing
through art education.

as the program.

A difference is being made with the murals but
not just with the murals but the people who
participate in making the murals because you
get all types of people making the murals or
producing the murals and coming up with the
layout of the murals. Its not just artist but
people who love the city of Philadelphia; not
just as an artist but as a resident.

3,000 murals painted around the city of
Philadelphia. The murals cover old graffiti and
new images are placed on the walls that inspire
those that are in and outside the community.
