AIA Albuquerque Continuing Education System Allied Member Program Guidelines INTRODUCTION AIA Albuquerque Allied Members, in cooperation with the AIA Albuquerque Chapter, may be able to offer continuing education credits for educational presentations made to architects in the Albuquerque area. This is a two-year pilot program designed to provide better services to the AIA Albuquerque Allied Members and to the architectural community by offering high-quality education programs. Continuing education credits will be granted for approved presentations in the greater Albuquerque Chapter Area. The intent is for the presentation to have educational value without advocating a particular product, system, or service. References to proprietary materials should be translated into generic terms. Therefore, the presentation should not be viewed as a direct advertisement. However, promotional materials may be made available or may be on display to program participants. It is important to keep in mind that the continuing education credits will be provided under the existing AIA Albuquerque Chapter Continuing Education System (CES) provider number. As a result of this program, AIA Albuquerque Allied Members can offer continuing education credits to participating architects after presentations have been reviewed and approved by the AIA Albuquerque Education Committee. Approval of these presentations is defined by the AIA National CES guidelines. It is understood that approving continuing education credits for presentation made by AIA Albuquerque Allied Members does not imply that the AIA Albuquerque Allied Member is an independently accredited CES provider. AIA Albuquerque is accrediting the educational value of these presentations and not the company or business making the presentations. AIA Albuquerque Allied Members participating in this program do so under the umbrella of AIA Albuquerque and not as independent continuing education providers. Failure to meet the AIA Albuquerque Allied Members Continuing Education program guidelines may result in a suspension of the accreditation privileges. Presentations made by AIA Albuquerque Allied Members will be monitored for compliance by the AIA staff and members of the AIA Albuquerque board of directors. The number of CES accredited presentations allowed in a given fiscal year to AIA Albuquerque Allied Members are as follows: AIA Albuquerque Allied Members - Gold - 10 presentations AIA Albuquerque Allied Members - Silver - 6 presentations AIA Albuquerque Allied Members - Bronze - 4 presentations 1 To obtain credit units for participating architects, Allied Members must obtain approval from the AIA Albuquerque Education Committee and meet the criteria established by AIA National. Approval of presentation materials is made after all materials to be used in the presentation are submitted to the AIA Education Committee. Please include Power Point or other audiovisual materials to be used in the presentation. It is not necessary to include your product-related materials. CRITERIA: 1. Continuing Education Credits will be provided by the Secretary of the AIA Albuquerque Board of Directors who is a licensed architect in the state of New Mexico. 2. All presentations must be registered with the AIA Albuquerque office five weeks prior to the date of the actual presentation. 3. A completed Program Summary must be delivered to the AIA Albuquerque office three weeks prior to the presentation. 4. Presentations must be made within the geographic area defined above. To receive CES credits for presentations made outside the Greater Albuquerque Area, Allied Members must become registered providers with AIA National. 5. The following cannot be included in the presentations: Product endorsement (demonstrations or sales presentations) offering CES credit Company or product identification during the credit portion of a program Presenters who do not register or report any activity Presenters who register programs and do not report attendance Failure to report attendance and/or issue certificates within two weeks of program completion HSW misuse Misrepresentation of Learning Units to be awarded False or misleading advertisements 6. Clearly define the Learning Objectives of the presentation. Each program must have at least one learning objective related to the practice of architecture. This should be a clear statement of what you want the architect to learn and must be clearly defined and communicated to participants before offering the program. 7. Describe the Delivery Methods of the presentation. How a program is taught should be based upon the learning objective(s). Research indicates that programs that involve participants and increase participation result in better and longer retention of material. Presentations can be Passive or active and can include one-way communication such as lecture, speech, or panel discussion. Interactive participation can include two-way communication such as roundtable discussion, group exercises, or case studies (51% or more of the time). Measurement of Learners’ Progress can also be used by applying Pre and Post-test measuring the learning progress of the participants. 8. Participants must complete an evaluation form at each of the presentations. Completed evaluation forms must be returned to the AIA Albuquerque office with all the sign in sheets. 9. Approval for subsequent accredited presentation will be made after all the required paperwork has been delivered to the AIA Albuquerque office (completed Program Summary and Evaluation form). 2 Cecilia Portal, AIA Executive Director can answer your questions at 505-242-9800 or director@aiaabq.org. Presentations must be of no less than 50 minutes and must be non-proprietary. The presentation needs to be approved by the Secretary of the AIA Albuquerque Board of Directors. When your presentation is approved, we will provide you with "Form A" detailing the contents of your presentation. Incomplete forms will not be accepted. The Form A is required by AIA National to approve and grant continuing education credits. AIA Albuquerque will review and present the proposed Form A to AIA National under the sponsorship of AIA Albuquerque’s Continuing Education provider number. 3. Once approved we will provide you with a course number, the "Form B" sign in sheets for attendees to receive CE credits and an evaluation form that must be completed by all participants. The sign in sheets and the evaluation forms must be returned to the AIA Albuquerque office no later than five days after the approved presentation. AIA Albuquerque will register the names of all participants for continuing education credit. Architects that are not AIA members must self report their continuing education credits. 4.
