Structure and Capacity o Scheduling meeting time to continue discussion on funding sustainability – Minnie- a Board Planning meeting is set for February 24, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. o Reviewing PW! Responsibilities towards Port Angeles Healthy Youth Coalition (follow up from 12.08 PW BOD Meeting) – PW! Is the umbrella coalition to PAHYC. PAHYC has a page on the PW! Website, but what is the role of PAHYC in relation to PW!? Are they a stand alone Port Angeles coalition or are they county-wide? Does their mission fit with PW! Mission? Who owns the curriculum that PAHYC uses? PW! is willing to be a mentor coalition with Jim Borte acting as the representative from PAHYC. Mentors set standards and expectations, and receive regular reporting in return. Further discussion and review will take place at the meeting on February 24. o Follow up with estimated cost of 990 and non-profit submission- Jennifer- Floyd will charge $3,000 to do a 990 review and audit for the IRS. An audit is necessary only when writing grants that require it. Otherwise we can simply have the review. More information forthcoming from Floyd. 2. The bill was presented to the Education Committee here in Washington on 1/20 or 1/21/09. I will bring a copy of the bill analysis for board members. (I also have a VHS of the 20 plus minute introduction of the bill, SEL by Sheryl Harmor (a reg. ed, sped and principal), Ron Rabin, Exec. Dir. of the Kirlin Charitable Foundation and Dr. David J. Hawkins, Founding Dir. of UW Social Development Research Grp). Next there were questions from House Education members, comments from Seth Dawson, Washington Association of the Prevention of Substance Abuse and Violence testifying in support of the bill and Barbara Mertens, School Administrators group opposing all of it until current education needs are funded. After the bill was introduced Mary Lou Dickerson requested "the unusual", that for the moment due to budgetary problems the complete proposal NOT be funded but that the following be instituted now: 1) Create an account into which public-private monies could be placed now 2) $25,000 be appropriated for preliminary planning to occur to get ready for the future. 2. Request PW! and individuals send a letter of support for it. 5. Sharing Information Next Prevention Works!
