Job Description JOB TITLE: MAINTENANCE MANAGER EXEMPT: Yes SALARY LEVEL: Salaried Exempt SHIFT: 1 REPORTS TO: Vice President PREPARED BY: HR SUMMARY: Responsible for planning, organizing, and performing the safe maintenance, repair or replacement of plant equipment and systems to ensure maximum production quantity and quality, while supporting the policies, goals, and objectives of the company. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITES Supervise plant maintenance personnel. Initiates, implements, and manages the plant maintenance program based on best practices in the plastic industry, with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance. Ensures that maintenance personnel are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner. Communicates regularly with all maintenance personnel, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues. Assists with hiring of maintenance personnel. Conducts employee performance reviews based on job descriptions to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance personnel. Participate in objective setting, plan development and performance review of plant performance. Monitors operation of plant equipment and systems. Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement. Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance related problems. Initiates and carries out projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs all while keeping within the agreed budget allowance. Participates in and leads problem solving teams, including shop floor activities (i.e.: machine set-ups and/or teardowns; process trouble shooting; analyzing equipment operation and design; process monitoring to identify variation; etc.) Tracks, analyzes and improves key maintenance parameters such as asset utilization, maintenance cost, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc. Directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance personnel. Communicates directly with the production department to coordinate maintenance and repair work in process areas. Communicates directly with the Quality Manager to ensure effective participation by the maintenance personnel in the implementation of Quality policies and procedures. Monitors the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering when necessary. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITES Implements programs and procedures required to ensure plant cleanliness (5S). Assists with planning and implementing plant improvements and expansions. Drive start up effort at the facility; therefore, participate in staffing effort, lead spare part procurement effort, lead maintenance training effort, and identify/secure critical supply and service agreements. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE: The minimum requirements for education and experience are listed below. Consideration will be given to individuals with an equivalent combination of education and experience. Associates degree from a two-year college in a related technical field or certificate or diploma from a trade school in a related field and five years experience in the maintenance and/or operation of a process manufacturing facility or equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience. Experience in the plastic industry is an asset. Experience with repairs and maintenance of processing equipment. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must have excellent supervisory skills, communications skills, and problem solving skills. Must have expertise and proficiency with basic office computer software, e.g., Microsoft Word and Excel. Must have excellent planning and organizational skills. GENERAL SKILLS Must be dependable, reliable, and mature. Must be able to stay over or come in early on short notice. Must be able to work any shift, including weekends. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This is a hands-on position which requires working along side maintenance personnel either in a supervisory capacity or assisting maintenance personnel in performing their duties. The employee is regularly required to stand for extended periods of time, walk, and have good hand/eye coordination and good motor skills. The employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is regularly required to reach and lift with hands and arms as well as stoop, kneel, climb or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 60 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds safely. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to work in high and precarious places up to elevations of 50 feet. WORKING ENVIRONMENT While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee may be exposed to wet or humid conditions. The employee is regularly exposed to high noise environments. The employee may be exposed to extremely dusty environments. The employee may be exposed to material and/or chemicals used in the process. The temperature in the work environment is frequently very hot.
