This traveling refugee camp raises awareness and examines Sudan's Darfur region and its humanitarian crisis – genocide – by placing it in historical context with Armenia, the Holocaust, Cambodia, and Rwanda. Students, faculty, and community members are invited to walk through the camp and take action to bring peace and justice to Sudan. 1-3 sentences about your program for the day(s). WHO: Here is where information should be listed about the group, school and gov. reps that might be attending. Camp Darfur is a project of Stop Genocide Now (SGN) and i-ACT (interactive-activism), a grassroots team that seeks to change the way the world responds to genocide. The camp travels across the country raising awareness and empowering individuals and groups to take action. SGN also sends teams to the Darfur refugee camps on the Chad Darfur border. Please visit www.stopgenocidenow.org and www.iactivism.org for more information. WHEN: DATE(S) WHERE: Specific Location with street address, building address, and where to park WHY: The situation in Sudan is urgent: Nearly three million Darfuris living in camps face the threat of rape and aid cut-offs; the country's president remains wanted for war crimes and crimes against humanity; and a return to full-scale North-South civil war looms. The Obama administration and other world leaders must: 1. Lead a more effective and urgent peace process for Darfur 2. Build an international coalition for strict implementation of the North-South peace deal 3. Implement a policy that creates real consequences* for those who continue to attack civilians, block life-saving aid, undermine peace, and obstruct justice ### ABOUT YOUR GROUP: give a short mission statement/description about your group so that the media knows who is hosting it! Send out the alert one week before the event and follow-up with a press release the day before! Try to keep the Media Alert to one page. The Press Release can be a little longer, but no longer than one page with everything important in the first two paragraphs.
