Utilize evidence-based pharmacotherapeutic strategies in clinical practice to improve patient care outcomes. Discuss pharmacologic treatment options for ear, nose, throat and allergy conditions. Verbalize the new changes in the 2014 immunization schedule and available products. Discuss the changes in pediatric infectious diseases as the result of new vaccines. Explain the need/use of Vitamin D in the growing child and the correct prescribing doses across the pediatric ages. At the completion of the Afternoon Program, participants will be able to: Discuss the new Indiana prescribing guidelines for opioid medications. Discuss treatment of chronic pain without opioids. Recognize appropriate risk stratification for the use of opioid medications. Discuss appropriate opioid management. Discuss the rationale for the use of the most common types of contraceptive methods. Compare and contrast the pros and cons of barrier methods versus oral contraceptives. Discuss what type of ‘patient education’ is critical when managing a patient who uses contraception. Discuss when the Nurse Practitioner should refrain from prescribing combined oral contraceptives. Discuss the latest treatment strategies/devices for Diabetes Mellitus. Review the class of SGLT2 inhibitors and their mechanism of action and effects on glucose control.
