Summer Camps at Oakridge
June 15 – 19
Dear Campers,
Welcome to week #2 of Oakridge Summer Camps. We are excited that you will be joining us
for “Operation Inventor”. The camp staff has planned a week full of exciting exploration, critical
thinking and problem solving. You will have a chance to meet the world’s most famous inventors as
we explore the history of invention. Each camper will have an opportunity to be the camp’s greatest
inventor. Start your ideas cranking and make your dreams come true!
On Monday, campers will be greeted by Benjamin Franklin. We will find out who the
world’s most famous inventors are. Throughout the day cabins will participate in “Inventor’s
Trivia”. We will talk about how to become an entrepreneur. We’ll learn how to develop an idea into a
product! Look out world, here we come!
Tuesday will be a day spent in the lab. Campers will have an opportunity to discover what the
most famous inventions were in history. We will work with gravity, magnets and energy. Our mystery
professor will join us for science. We will study aerodynamics and have a kite flight. Everyone will
enjoy a cool dip. Campers should bring their swimsuit and towel. 1st – 4th grade campers will travel to
Mrs. G’s pool and younger campers will enjoy water play in the courtyard.
On Wednesday, we will all come dressed like our favorite inventor (please be simple). We’ll
talk about Leonardo daVinci, Henry Ford, James Naismith and all of their discoveries and creations.
We will enjoy a visit from a mystery guest that will demonstrate a great invention. First through fourth
graders will visit the C.R. Smith American Airlines Museum at DFW. Younger campers will make
gliders and discover wind tunnels.
On Thursday, campers will attend an invention workshop. We’ll make “edible art” inventions.
Campers will be dazzled by a presentation from a local inventor. That afternoon we will create
inventions that float (We hope.) and try them out. Everyone will swim so be sure to pack your swim
suit and towel.
Friday will be the most exciting day of all, Inventor’s Day! Our 1st – 4th grade campers will
travel to the Fort Worth Aviation Museum. We will discover how modern day conveniences are
different from past models, enjoy a lunch invention from Jason’s Deli and have our own Invention
Fair Talent Show. Will you be the camp’s greatest inventor?
Each day will offer campers a variety of activities. Remember to bring your lunch and a drink
each day except Friday. Snacks will be provided in the morning and afternoon. We’ll see you bright
and early Monday morning, June 15. Camp begins at 9 am and ends at 3:30 pm. Your parents can
drop you off in the carpool line at the Early Childhood Center beginning at 8:45 am. Counselors will
assist you out of the car and into the building. Parents may walk campers into the building if you wish.
Extended Day opens at 8:00 am and closes at 6:00 pm. Please have your parents escort you into the
building if you come for Extended Day.
Happy Camping
