Elblag Chamber Orchestra The Elblag Chamber Orchestra was established in October 2007. It brings together young talented graduates of the Academy of Music in Gdansk, prize winners of numerous solo and chamber music competitions, for whom music has become a great passion, and work in Orchestra is a continuation of their creative development and artistic pursuits. Since 2013 Marek Mos has been the artistic director. He belongs to the most artistic personalities in European chamber music. He is the founder of the Silesian Quartet, one of the greatest string quartets in Europe. Since 1998 he has been the conductor and artistic director of the Chamber Orchestra in Tychy - AUKSO - one of the most interesting European chamber ensembles. The Orchestra’s broad repertoire features works by universally acknowledged masters of Baroque, Classical, Name of the Romantic and 20th Century music ranging from Arcangelo Corelli to Witold organization and Lutosławski, Wojciech Kilar and Henryk Mikołaj Górecki. The Orchestra short description also performs compositions combining elements of avant-garde, jazz and pop of its activities music. The Orchestra has worked with many prominent and internationally acclaimed conductors and soloists, including Jerzy Maksymiuk, Jose Maria Florencio, Massimiliano Caldi, Volker Schmidt-Gertenbach, Anna DuczmalMroz, Marek Moś, Michał Nesterowicz, and also Soyoung Yoon, Agata Szymczewska, Jan Stanienda, Łukasz Długosz, Beata Bilińska, Piotr Pławner, Marcin Zdunik, Erzhan Kulibaev, Marcin Wyrostek, Iwona Sobotka, Magdalena Bojanowicz and Agata Zubel. So far our musicians have participated in many prestigious musical events such as the TOP TRENDY Festival organised by the POLSAT television or the TOP of the TOP Festival in Sopot. The Orchestra is also well known for its cooperation with prominent Polish artists including Motion Trio, Leszek Możdżer, Atom String Quartet, Henryk Miśkiewicz, Andrzej Jagodziński Trio, Raz Dwa Trzy, Grzegorz Turnau, Edyta Gorniak, Justyna Steczkowska, Adam Sztaba, Kameleon Septet, Zakopower and Shannon. In 2013 the Orchestra participated in the international commemoration of the 70th Anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising performing at the Gethsemane Church in Berlin. It also completed a tour of the northern coast of Spain with successful concerts in San Sebastian, Azkoitia and Hondarribia. The Orchestra has been actively involved in many musical events. These included the ‘Adventus lucis’ show organised by the European Solidarity Centre to commemorate the 39th anniversary of the December 1970 protests, the International Festival of Sacred Music in Gdynia and a concert on the occasion of John Paul II’s beatification during which it performed Johann Sebastian Bach’s Mass in B Minor. The Orchestra also performed during the ‘Let’s Sing Poetry’ National Castle Meetings in Olsztyn, Jazzbląg Festival in Elblag and the Summer Gardens of POLITYKA Weekly Magazine. Drawing on the musical richness of ancient Elblag and following the traditions of local musicians from the first half of the 20th century, in 2011 the Orchestra made the first performance of a composition written by a 19th century composer Johann Benjamin Groß.In 2011 the Elblag Chamber Orchestra issued its first record entitled ‘Mercandante, Doppler, Karłowicz’ featuring eminent Polish flautists – Łukasz Długosz and Agata Kielar-Długosz. The record includes Saverio Mercandante’s Concerto in E Minor for Flute and Chamber Orchestra, Franz Doppler’s Duettino Hongrois Op. 36 for Flute and String Orchestra, Andante and Rondo for Two Flutes and String Orchestra, and Mieczysław Karłowicz’s Serenade for String Orchestra Op. 2. During the recording sessions the Orchestra was conducted by Marzena Diakun and Marcin Sompoliński. Additionally, the Orchestra also participated in two other recordings – Ryszard Rynkowski’s ‘Together’ and ‘Satanalia’ featuring film music composed by Jerzy Satanowski. Project title and ,, Polish music in the Zulawy Region” Festival start / end date Start date: 17.07.2015 End date: 22.07.2015 Creative Europe Cooperation project strand Field Music / Festival Short description The main idea behind the ,, Polish music in the Zulawy Region” of the project Festival is the presentation of the places associated with the Gothic Tourist Trail of churches in the Zulawy region in a form of a dialogue with Polish music, created mainly in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The program of the festival concerts will include works created by prominent Polish composers. Also eminent artists have accepted the invitation to participate in this event. ,, Polish music in the Zulawy Region” Festival is a special kind of tour of the Elblag Chamber Orchestra which will present the public with treasures of Polish music inspired by native folklore in historic interiors of churches. The program of the festival concerts will include outstanding works of Polish composers like: Mieczyslaw Karłowicz, Witold Lutoslawski, Wojciech Kilar, Andrzej Panufnik, Romuald Twardowski, Krzysztof Penderecki, H. M. Gorecki and a representative of the newest music of Peter Moss. Each edition of the Festival will also host a guest in the form of music composed by outstanding composers. The music will present works from the outside of the Polish repertoire. The effect of the festival is popularization of the less-known places of Zulawy region and the promotion of Polish contemporary music. The Festival poses a cyclic proposal of contact with Polish music addressed both to the inhabitants of the entire Zulawy region and tourists. The festival will bring Zulawy residents closer to the interesting and rich history of the region in conjunction with a presentation of the great masters of composition. The project shall be carried out as a continuation of occasional concerts of the Elblag chamber Orchestra has held since 2011 in small towns located in the immediate vicinity of Elblag. The project attracted a lot of interest of local communities, cultural centers and authorities. Zulawy have a number of features that set it against the background of the country: building regional ( arcaded houses , Dutch homesteads , windmills , churches and ruins of Gothic), equipment and hydraulic structures (Vistula embankments, sluices, canals, drawbridges), mennonite culture and heritage (cemeteries). Community of the region frequently suffers from limited access to the cultural offer, due to difficult economic situation, living conditions and the remoteness from large centers of culture. The ECO will approach the inhabitants of the region, through concerts organized in their places of residence. taking into account the specificities of media for different age groups. Concerts will be open to the public. The target group are children, young people, local environments, and the people of the entire Zulawy region, individual tourists and organized groups of tourists.
