Georgetta Marie Gancarz
Georgetta graduated from The School of Visual Arts and Fordham University with degrees in Art and Science.
She also minored in Art Therapy and received various teacher credits, honorary art, president, staff awards and scholarships.
Georgetta has been teaching painting for 20 years and is a painter ordainted in the guild of St. Luke. Working on her charity Artist
For Breast Cancer Charity, she continues to educate the public on awareness and prevention. She currently teaches art at Seattle
Central and North Community College as well as Florence, Italy. Her work has been exhibited worldwide and at the Metropolitan
Museum of Art. In Seattle she is locally represented by the gallery Art/Not Terminal and is on the Executive Committee Board at
the EC University of Washington; Her picture is on the cover of Alberto Manguel's 2002 International best seller, "Reading
Pictures What We Think About When We Look At Art". Her works are on file at The Women Museum of Arts, Washington, DC;
Renaissance works are in collection of Saint James Cathedral, Seattle, other collections are at the Muse Foundation Museum
Collection in NYC as well as Basilicas throughout Europe. Georgetta is currently writing and illustrating another art book.

COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
Painting For Everyone
Instructor Georgetta Marie Gancarz
Designed for the beginner, this course will focus on the individuality of each student. Working directly from the model,
memory or imagination, students will be encouraged to explore color, form, space, composition and technique as a
source of personal expression. There will be individual feedback and instruction to assist students in their vision. Acrylic,
oil paint and other media will be explored.
Painting For Everyone Intermediate Level
Instructor Georgetta Marie Gancarz
Designed for the intermediate student, this course will explore the techniques of palette knife painting, scumbling,
glazing and washes. We will also use varnish, wood, wax, fabric and collage materials. All mediums are welcome.
Students will learn how to frame their artwork and exhibit in a local gallery. We will explore complex mood, line, texture
and abstract theories to create finished paintings.
How to Exhibit, Market and Sell Your Art

Are you an artist? Do you dream of showing your art, but don’t know how or where? Do you have an artist resume and
bio? Do you know how to start a website? Do you wish to make slides of your work. Do you want to learn about art
fellowships, grants, chances for the government to pay you to travel and live as an artist? Then this class is for you! We
will learn all the above and more. Please bring to the first session a notebook and examples of your artwork in photo,
slides or person. We will exhibit in a gallery as part of the class.
Encaustic Wax Painting

Have you ever wondered how an artist used wax to paint? Have you ever wanted to try a new medium? Well, this class
is for you. We cover how to use wax to achieve a realistic or non-conventional finished painting. Collage, pen and ink,
stamps, fabric, paper, canvas all mixed mediums are welcome! Come and create something new. First class will be a
materials session.
How To Make The Paint Work For You

Beginning to paint can be so much fun! But learning how to mix your colors makes the process easier. This class is for
students that want to learn how to mix colors comfortably step by step. For students wanting to make that transition from
painting what you see to actually putting it on the canvas the way you want. We will complete a painting combining all
the techniques (gradations, shading, warm and cool colors, washes, glazes and textures) we learned in class. There will
be positive feedback for each session.
Modern Art Painting the Figure

Each week we will view a modern artist who uses a new technique in capturing the figure. We will use their ideas to
create our own finished piece. To help us achieve our vision class will include lots of fun painting exercises, some slide
presentations, and an artist pictorial history. In this class we will cover art from the cubist, impressionist, realist,
surrealist and minimalist.
Modern Art painting Landscapes

Each session we will cover a new artist who paints the landscape in different styles. We will use their ideas to create our
own finished piece. To help us achieve our vision class will include lots of fun painting exercises, some slide
presentations, a little pictorial art history and a gallery tour. We will cover art from the cubist, impressionist, realist,
surrealist, and minimalist.
Transparent Art

In this class we will explore the art of transparency by using mixed media, collages and washes. Activities will involve
painting with multi layered washes, using acrylics, watercolors, wax, paper, plastic, fabric, molding paste,
photographs…etc. We will work with colors exploring various hues, shapes, forms, sizes, and mediums. Students will
also learn about different brushes, and the layering color effect. We will also view and study methods of Paul Klee and
other modern artist. Freedom of expression is taught and encouraged. Class will end with a museum trip.
The Gold Leaf Process

Do you admire renaissance paintings from the 12th to 17th century? Have you ever wondered how these old master
paintings looked like gold! Then this is the class for you. Come and learn the process of preparation, application,
surface treatment and final presentation of the gold leaf process. We will work with cheaper leaf alternatives too and
make them look like the original masters! We will work with paint, imagery, collages, transfers, wood and professional
glazes! We will also explore metallic paints and varnishes for gold leaf preservation. Come make a masterpiece with this
splendid material! Teacher is an artist and professional painter. Her religious art has been displayed in museums,
galleries and churches worldwide.
Secrets of the Impressionist Line Painting

Do you admire the paintings of the Impressionist? Do you love Cezanne, Monet, Renoir, Van Gogh, Mary Cassatt,
Pissarro, Manet and Degas? The this class is for you! Come and learn the secret brushstrokes of the impressionist. We
will study their unique brushstroke method to make beautiful paintings. No formal art training is needed because all the
difficult processes in painting are not necessary. We will learn how numerous simple lines of color can make a complete
painting.All you need is your willingness to learn.
The Magic of Photo Transfers

Are you looking for a class where you can learn a brand new HOT art skill?
Where you don’t need any former art instruction, lots of money for materials and the process is fun. This is
a perfect class for the non-artist, the artist, or anyone who wants to create. Make amazing transfers of the
image of photographs of family, pets or vacation on glass, wood and paper! The image is copied so the
original photo is never destroyed! They make excellent gifts and the process is so unique, everyone asks
how you did it; it’s so beautiful! For artists: Also a great way to start a painting or drawing or combine with
mixed mediums! You can also layer photos on top of each other making each layer translucent Imagine
having a favorite photo of yours imprinted in glass, paper or wood forever! Come create!
Spontaneous Art

Drawing, Painting and Art History on Location Italy (Summer)

Spend a month in the birthplace of the Renaissance, Florence, Italy. For students, professionals, artists, beginners to
advanced. Draw on location, in the piazzas, Italian picturesque sites and museums of classical Italy. Includes art history
and some painting. Class fee covers 65 hours of instruction. Travel expenses additional. Please note: This class is for

This course will provide a foundation in the fundamentals of painting, drawing and watercolor design. Using various
indoor and outdoor locations as our classroom students will sharpen their vision and perception by studying nature and
the human figure. They will work to create unity through architectural organization of space and light and develop
realistic rendering of one, two and three point perspectives in detail, using wet and dry brush, loose washes and the
drawing process. Short and longer gesture exercises explore methods for achieving a likeness of the subject its contour,
value, color, design, composition and texture. Students will draw and paint from landscapes, still lives, interiors and
figures. Sessions will be augmented with classical traditions as well as the creative process. Students will work in pencil,
charcoal, watercolors or acrylics. Sessions will end with an informal critique.
The object of the course is for students to experience Italy and its art on their own terms learning the techniques of
drawing and watercolor on location.
The Course Objectives for Painting and Drawing on Location:
1. Learning the tools and techniques necessary to develop a work of art.
2. Learning to paint and draw on location.
3. Using observation, color theory and linear perspective to explore composition, color, form, space, light, shadow and
texture.
4. Perception of using art for creative expression and travel diaries.
5. International understanding of Italian art through travel, experience and art education.
6. Student developing a global since of art appreciation.
7. Expressing different ways to document art by developing an art vocabulary.
8. Learning different ways to see art by viewing works in museums/galleries/or piazzas.
9. Understanding art as a form of personal expression.
