Murphy n/a MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB To carry out full-time research as specified by the terms of the AHRC collaborative doctoral award: Criminal skill: coining and coiners during the long eighteenth century, and to meet the requirements of and submit for a PhD in History. RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES Research: To carry out research as specified by the terms of the AHRC collaborative doctoral award; To produce a thesis of the required length and submit for the title of PhD; To attend, as appropriate, the research training sessions which are part of the doctoral requirements; To attend, as appropriate, research seminars and workshops put on by the History Group and to present to those seminars, if appropriate; SUPERVISION RECEIVED The principal supervisors for research on a full-time doctoral degree will be Dr Anne L. Murphy at the University of Hertfordshire and Dr Catherine Eagleton at the British Museum. The second supervisor will be Professor John Styles at the University of Hertfordshire. SUPERVISION GIVEN None RESPONSIBILITY FOR BUDGETS None MAINTENANCE AND FEES PhD Studentship PC/O8/09 1 The studentship pays tuition fees and a maintenance grant of £13,590 per annum (current rates). (2) PERSON SPECIFICATION - PhD Studentship Essential Requirements 1. A first class, or good upper second class BA/BSc Honours Degree in History or a related subject. 2. The completion or impending completion of an MA Degree in History or a related subject. 3. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills. Desirable Requirements 1. Previous experience of working with archival materials and reading eighteenth century handwriting.
