practitioners drawn from occupational therapy and clinical speech and
language therapy.
Who can apply? This course is being organised jointly by IASLT and AOTI.
Occupational Therapists and Speech and Language Therapists at any
grade/place of work/employment status may apply. It is open to members
and non-members of IASLT/AOTI for a fee.
Course Introduction
Attendance at this workshop will enable participants to have an
understanding of ethical procedures including capacity for decision making,
informed consent, informed refusal, as well as having a framework for
dealing with ethical problems in a systematic manner.
The course is made up of modules that have inter-related components which
are shaped the principles of ethics, capacity and consent, and an action
oriented goal of examining ethical dilemmas. The course is designed in such
a way to enable course participants who may have had limited or no
education in ethics, but who may have experience of ethical dilemmas to
make sense of those dilemmas and to have a framework for dealing with
them on completion of the course. The outline of each component below
addresses the high-level learning objectives outlined in the tender
document, namely, that participants will:
• gain a working knowledge of ethical principles and their application
• be able to understand capacity, confidentiality and informed consent
