Described as a honey-pot of gardens, East Worldham Gardens will be open for the
second time this year under the National Gardens Scheme. ‘Selborne’, Silver Birches
Wyck House will be open.
Car parking signed opposite ‘Selborne’ and near East Worldham Village Hall. Teas
in aid of East Worldham Church will be available at ‘Selborne’. Teas including cream
teas will also be available in the garden of the Three Horseshoes Pub.
Wyck House’s mature half-acre garden with extensive views, contains interesting
shrubs and trees, roses and perennials. A wide-ranging collection of clematis is a
major feature of the garden. High hedges guard a vegetable and fruit area and borders
of shade-loving plants.
The garden at Silver Birches, redesigned from an overgrown jungle offers mixed
coloured-themed borders, shaded woodland area, fishpond, stream, rockery and rose
garden. Sitting areas provide opportunities for contemplation and for listening to the
birds. The aim is a surprise around every corner.
The garden at ‘Selborne’, with views across farmland, features a very old orchard,
mostly of apple, with plenty of seating. Metal and stone sculpture complement the
the mixed borders which feature a wide range of hardy geraniums as well as other
herbaceous plants and shrubs. Bookstall in aid of Tafara Mission, Zimbabwe.
