March 2013
Curriculum
We started this half term with dance workshops
related to our Treasure/Under the Sea topics. Miss
Buckley’s class are doing a topic on water. We
continue to focus on improving standards in maths
with a strong emphasis on the basics. We are also
doing more work on improving writing in school.
This has been supported in Y6 with a writing
workshop by Conrad Burdekin.
www.conradburdekin.com The Y2s have visited a
light exhibition in Barnsley to inspire them to write.
Our theme this half term for our Personal and
Social Teaching is ‘Going for Goals’ Children are
encouraged to try their hardest in all areas, be
ambitious and raise their aspirations.
Animals in Tuition Workshops
On the 5th
Feb. The
children had
an opportunity
to handle a
range of small
creatures and
learn about
the different
animals
On 15th March it is Red Nose Day. We are having
a
‘Mad Hair’ day
and
invite children to
come to school
with an
outragous
hair style. In
doing so, they
are
asked to make a
donation to the Red
Nose Day Charity. Children do not need to come to
school in their uniform that day if they are making a
donation. We have ordered red noses which we plan
to sell in school.
Reading Challenge
The Reading Challenge this term has been for the Y5
and Y6 children. They can complete the challenge by
reading a book from the 8 different categories. It
finishes on 22nd March.
I would like to thank our School Librarians for all
their hard work. Mia Faulkner, Gabby Benson, Rachel
Garratt and Casey Fisher have spent much of their
own time sorting our School Library. They have also
visited Barnsley Library to learn about the role of a
Librarian.
It is World Book Day 7th March and to celebrate the
day children have been given vouchers to purchase
books at a discounted rate.
Parents Council/Easter Coffee Morning
The Parents Council has met with photographers to
select who will take our school pictures. It is proposed
that we will have class photos 17th June.
The Parents Group have organised an Easter Coffee
morning on Friday 22nd March from 9.15. The
children will be singing. We will also be holding our
annual Easter Egg decorating competition. Children
are asked to decorate eggs at home and bring them
into school (this is not compulsory). We will have an
Easter bonnet parade for Mrs. Bruck’s class, Mr.
Hussain’s class and Miss Buckley’s class.
Donations of cakes and raffle prizes would be
gratefully received.
The next Parents Group meeting is on Thursday 25th
April at 9 a.m. We would love to have some more
parents attend as we still have no parental
representation from Miss Buckley’s class or Mrs.
Bruck’s class. If you want your views heard then you
would be most welcome.
Parent Consultations
As this term is a short term we plan to hold the
Parent Consultations the 1st week back after the
Easter Holiday.
Y5 Consultations Monday 8th April
Y1 and R Consultations Tuesday 9th April
Y6 and Y4 Consultations Wednesday 10th April
Y3 and Y2 Consulations Thursday 11th April

Parent Governor Surgery
Sam Bharath is a Parent Governor and is available
to speak with parents who have any concerns or
issues they wish to raise. She can be found in Miss
Buckley’s class each Thursday morning.
Our school will be taking part in the Barnsley
Chronicle competition. You are asked to collect the
vouchers and bring them into school so that we can
enter the competition.
Reminders
We still have Headlice in school so please keep
checking your child’s hair and combing it through
with conditioner.
