Laura Rowbotham Laura is a professional Event Rider from the Vale of Belvoir, Leicestershire. Laura runs a growing team of event horses from her parent’s dairy farm and livery stables. She is a very ambitious, upand-coming rider determined to become one of the country’s leading riders. Laura competes horses from babies up to Advanced level and has 6 horses in her current string. Woodfield Ria currently heads the string, she is an 11yo Advanced Mare with 69BE points aiming at 3* events this year. Euphoria and Tomgar Jess are at Novice and 1* level and aiming for Intermediate, with 32 and 5BE points respectively. The other 3 horses are just starting out this year, Woodfield Alban, Miss Spring Fever and Forrests Foxy Lady, are at BE90/100 level. With Forrests Foxy Lady entered in the British Young Event Horse 5yo classes. With 5 mares out numbering her 1 gelding and another mare, Laura’s ex Advanced horse Highdays Hanna, currently at Stud, it’s definitely girl power! As mentioned above Laura has the ride of Forrests Foxy Lady (Fudge), one of Forrest Gumps up-andcoming offspring. Laura says Fudge is lovely, a real character and sometimes too clever for her own good but very talented, especially at jumping - surprisingly as Forrest Gump is a Dressage Stallion! She also is still 15.1hh ish maybe 15.2 but slight and everyone would think from looking at her she is mainly TB! When did you start riding? When I was 2. Who was your first horse? An 11.2hh Strawberry roan, Sec A called Topper. What have been the most influential horses in your career? -Foggy Dew: 14.2 Connemara who I would trust to jump anything and everything, he started my affiliated eventing getting a double clear in a BE100 when I was 13. -Highdays Hanna: my first good horse who we bought as a tricky 5yo chestnut mare and together did our 1st Pony Club Championships, BE Novices and Intermediates. -Woodfield Ria, a wonderful brave Mare who took me to Advanced and will hopefully go to 4* level with me. What qualities do you look for in a horse? Good kind temperament. A well put together horse and then can he/she move and jump well. If you could have any horse who would it be? Lenamore- he is the most wonderful jumper. What tack (gadget) could you not live without? Neck strap!! What is the best advice you could give to any aspiring riders? Get the basics right first and work on yourself not just the horse. Who is your hero (riding)? Mary King or William Fox Pitt Do you have any up and coming horses that would should keep an eye out for? Forrests Foxy Lady (small but mighty!) and Woodfield Ria, What is your greatest riding achievement? 1st at the PC Open Championships, 1st Burghley Event Pony Class, 6th in CCI** at Houghton. When did you last fall off? The Intermediate at Aske Hall in July 2011, I got stood on and a nice haematoma as well. What feed or supplement couldn’t you live without? Haribos! Sorry, for the horses carrots and I feed the Top Spec Range. Who do you have lessons with? Di Lampard for Jumping and Andrew Fletcher for Dressage. I previously trained for 7 years with Olympian Richard Walker. What is your favourite breed of horse? TB/Irish/Warmblood mix... Eventing takes allsorts! What is your favourite colour of horse? Dun What is your least favourite horsey chore? Stud holes When did you last forget your test/course? Can’t remember when I last forgot a test but I went wrong while having one called over the Winter. Have you always ridden Eventing? I was on PC Showjumping and dressage teams before eventing teams, as I either had a pony that could jump but not dressage or the other way around. Where is the best place you have competed and why? Chatsworth, Belton, Houghton and Highclere, they are all beautiful estates and houses. Do you have a good luck charm? (For competing or backing youngsters etc) No Laura is available for lessons/training and schooling/competition livery.
