The incumbent reports to the Infrastructure/Security Specialist (P-4). MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Under the direct supervision of the Infrastructure/Security Specialist, the incumbent is responsible for the following functions: Implement regular and preventative maintenance for HQ core and edge switches; Provide remote monitoring and technical backstopping for the HQ, RO, SRO and CO’s LAN facilities and services including switches, routers and firewalls; Collaborate with other MIS groups for telecommunications, application development, and server deployment to ensure appropriate network traffic and security concerns are addressed; Analyze and approve requests for access to resources on the Internet; Develop documentation pertaining to the implementation of the global network survey; Perform and document cost-benefit analysis to assess the financial and operational viability of proposed network infrastructure deployments; Provide substantive inputs and suggestions on all aspects related to the design, and testing of new network products, infrastructure, policies, and services; Project management, coordinate, commission and administrate implementation and development of the network infrastructure; Respond to Infrastructure/Security service desk queries; Document configuration and support procedures for network equipment and systems. Develop and maintain configuration policies and best practices guides. Coordinate services, installation, maintenance and supplies from external vendors and other UN agencies; Review a representative sample of service charges to identify services overbilled, quantify the additional costs paid for those services and claim them back from vendors; Assist in the preparation of written reports which in using data and statistics contribute to efficient and effective usage of the given network infrastructure; Recommend network policies, management and procedure changes; Analyze information from the switches and generate to extract and thereafter synthesize reports which in combination with the firewall reports will report relevant information on services statistics and therefore to provide inputs on deficiency and effectiveness of service deployment and usage. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Advanced university degree in Computer Science or Engineering or other related field.A first level university degree combined with infrastructure security training and certification programs may be acceptable in lieu of the advanced university degree. Supplemental courses and training in switch, router, security areas plus technical certifications preferably in Cisco/Brocade switch systems, ITIL v3, and firewall management and configuration are assets. 2 years experience in networking and/or network security at the national or international level in the public/private sector. Experience in supporting network operations in an enterprise environment with hands-on experience in the following areas: Switch configuration; Firewall configuration; TCP/IP protocols; and network infrastructure design. Working knowledge in the development and maintenance of network equipment and systems are required. Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project and Visio tools. Strong analytical skills. Fluency and full working knowledge in English is required; knowledge of another UN language is an asset.
