TERMS OF REFERENCE OF AUTHORS OF POPULATION SITUATION ANALYSIS UNFPA wishes to recruit consultants to carry out analysis and compile reports on selected thematic areas as outlined below. BACKGROUND United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in collaboration with the National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) and the Population Studies Research Institute of University of Nairobi is conducting a Kenya Population Situation Analysis (PSA). The purpose of the population situation analysis is to document incisively the overall situation of the wellbeing of the society of Kenya and to inform the government, civil society, individuals and the entire spectrum of stakeholders on challenges and opportunities that Kenya has and suggest ways of addressing them while utilizing the opportunities gainfully. This will be done through an assessment; demonstrating the importance of population dynamics, their relationship with social, economic, political and cultural processes and their short and medium-term implications. The guiding principles of the exercise are the Inequalities and exercise of human rights pursuant to international agreements and goals. The PSA will cover thematic areas outlined below. Review of population dynamics and the potentialities or constraints imposed by the national context Trajectory and Growth of the Population in the Context of the Demographic Transition; Changes in the Situation of Sexual and Reproductive Health, with an emphasis on Fertility; Sexual and Reproductive Health: Health Systems and Service Delivery (Health Systems and Service Delivery, Emergency Obstetric Care, Unmet Need, Obstetric Fistula); Changes in Overall, Infant, Child, and Maternal Mortality; Morbidity, Mortality and the Epidemiological Transition; Situation and Trends with Respect to HIV/AIDS and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs); Changes in the Age Structure, with Special Reference to Ageing, Adolescents and Youth and their Emergence as a Priority Group; Marriage and Family Patterns; Settlement Patterns and Population Mobility (Urbanization and Changes in Regional Population Distribution, Internal Migration, Emergency Situations: Natural Disasters, Armed Conflicts, Displacement); International Migration, Trafficking and Cross-Border Movement; and MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES The authors shall work closely with a Technical Taskforce, PSRI, and UNFPA and will be expected to: 1. Participate in an orientation workshop; 2. Review relevant literature and analyse data in the area assigned; 3. Collect and analyze relevant data (where necessary); 4. Submit a draft paper to PSRI (with copy to UNFPA); 5. Make presentations during review workshops; and 6. Prepare and submit the final paper to the Director PSRI with a copy to UNFPA.
