Order Form for Weavings from Tsobol Antzetik (Women United), a weaving
cooperative from San Pedro Chenalhó, Chiapas, Mexico
The weavings in this catalog are made by women in Tsobol Antzetik (Women United), a weaving
cooperative from San Pedro Chenalhó, a township in the highlands of Chiapas. Tsobol Antzetik
is a group of about 30 Tzotzil-speaking Maya women and their children who live in several
neighboring communities. The group’s members also belong to two organizations seeking peace
with justice –the Zapatista movement and Las Abejas (The Bees), a Catholic social justice group.
Together the women are trying to create economies of solidarity and cooperation, alternatives to
the economic system of competition that globalization promotes.
This catalog of weavings features 113 products that the weavers of Tsobol Antzetik have made
over the past 20 years. Unless otherwise specified, all products are woven on a back-strap loom
with a brocade technique in which designs and the background cloth evolve as a piece. Most
weavings are made with commercially purchased cotton threads that look like embroidery floss.
A few products are made with woolen threads dyed from plants.
When ordering women’s blouses please indicate the size: small (22 inches wide by 26 inches
long); medium (29x29); and large (35x 35). For an extra large or long blouse add $10.00. When
ordering girl’s blouses please give the age and approximate size of the child (e.g. small 8 year
old). Measurements for other weavings are approximate.
Please send prepayment for your order so that the weavers will have cash to purchase threads as
well as food and other necessities. Make checks payable to Tsobol Antzetik and mail along with
this form to: Las Cruces Chiapas Connection, c/o Christine Eber, P.O. Box 373, Radium
Springs, NM 88054. Las Cruces Chiapas Connection is a volunteer group in Southern New
Mexico that assists Tsobol Antzetik to sell its weavings through fair trade. Weavers receive 8590% of the price of each weaving. The rest of your payment helps LCCC in its work with the

Orders are grouped and sent on the last day of each month. Please allow approximately 6-7
weeks for delivery to your home. Only orders received before September 30th are guaranteed to
arrive in time for holiday gift-giving. We will bill you for postage to ship to your home or arrange
to deliver it to you if you live in the Las Cruces area. In most cases weavings include a tag with a
photo & biography of the weaver and a card with a brief background on weaving in Chiapas.
Weavings with toad, cosmogram, bee or woman symbol come with a description of the symbol.
