Dear Parents, We are beginning our culminating project on the Colonial Period. Each fifth grader will contribute to a Colonial Museum and parents will be invited to attend. This project will include class work and homework. For this special day your child will need to wear a colonial costume. This costume may already be hanging in your closet! We do not want anyone to incur a major expense, and if you need to purchase something, remember the local thrift stores. Visit history.org to get costume ideas. The following is a list of suggestions: BOYS Loose white shirt or blouse (ruffles at the neck are great) Dark knickers (sweats pulled up to the knee or baseball pants) A vest (a woman’s flowered vest works great) Hard dark shoes with a foil buckle Long plain socks-soccer socks work great Tri corner hat-check with party supply stores GIRLS Long dress or skirt-pale colors or small prints White long socks or tights White blouse that covers the elbows-peasant style works best Mop cap Decorated straw hat Thank-you for your support. Welcome to the 18th century! Sincerely, 5th Grade Teachers of Rancho Elementary
