USTA South Carolina Staff Responsibilities
Coordinator of Public Relations and Sales/Sponsorships
Hours/Schedule of Position: This full-time salaried exempt employee reports directly to the
Manager of Media and Marketing. Standard hours are Monday through Friday with evening or
weekend activities and travel as required by events.
Summary of Position Purpose: Promote the sport of tennis and USTA tennis programs to
members of the organization and to the general population of SC through communication and
public relation strategies including special events to attract significant numbers of new players
and participants in USTA services.
Minimum Qualifications:
 Education/Certification: Bachelor degree in relevant field
 Experience: Internship or past employment with comparable duties, non-profit
background, practical knowledge and work with volunteers
 Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, ability to create engaging written
content, proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe CS 5, competency with digital SLR
photography
 Other Requirements: Familiarity with tennis, a passion for customer service, creative
and resilient personality, pride in one’s work and a self-starter with a desire to be on our
team
Position Responsibilities Include:

Public Relations – build and support a SC tennis news network with key people in
newspapers, TV, radio, etc., to disseminate news and feature stories to the media on a
frequent and regular basis.

Connect with local tennis providers to be informed of events and happenings and assist
with public relations and promotion for mutual benefit.

Coordinate and communicate with USTA South Carolina members through E-blasts and
on-hold voice messaging.

Generate and service sponsorships for programs and/or special events.

Grow revenues from website ad sales and support accounts.

Promotion of adult programs such as, USTA Leagues (working with the Director of
Leagues), sanctioned tournaments, adaptive tennis and wheelchair tennis through print
media, marketing strategies, and website content (under control of the Manager of
Media and Marketing).

Coordinate the administration and promotion of USTA Flex Leagues through Local
Tennis Organizers.

Implement and disseminate materials from USTA National and Section marketing
campaigns.

Coordinate public relations including photography at USTA South Carolina state-wide
events

Collaborate with Volunteer Coordinator, or staff as relevant, to select, plan and support
public relation events which place tennis and USTA South Carolina in the public
consciousness. Examples include Sport Court Tour, tennis festivals and other
significant community events.

Manage computer and audio/visual equipment not specifically assigned to individual
staff. Maintain this equipment and administer an assignment/checkout system for this
equipment. Assist committees & staff with audiovisual support, including the USTA
South Carolina Annual Meeting, workshops and public events.

Act as staff liaison with Chairperson(s) of USTA South Carolina committee(s) as
assigned by Executive Director to include regular communication and contact with
information, suggestions and offers to support committee goals.

From time to time, assist other staff with projects, including work for the Executive
Director as needed.
