Michael McCullough BDSc MDSc FRACDS (Oral Med) PhD FOMAA Michael McCullough is the Professor in Oral Medicine and Director of Teaching and Learning at the Melbourne Dental School, the University of Melbourne. He is the convener of both the post-graduate and undergraduate courses in Oral Medicine, has published over 80 articles in peer reviewed scientific journals, was on the Expert Panel for both editions of the Therapeutic Guidelines book titled “Oral and Dental”, is on the ADA’s Therapeutics Committee. Michael is an Oral Medicine Clinical Consultant to the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne, the Royal Melbourne Hospital and Frankston Integrated Health. Lecture 1: Geriatric Oral Medicine The oral cavity is subject to age related processes such as cellular aging and immunosenescence. In this presentation will discuss the susceptibility to mucosal disorders of the aging population and the increased prevalence of Potentially Malignant Disorders (PMD) and Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma (OSCC) as well Dermatoses including Oral Lichen Planus (OLP) and Immunobullous conditions. Lastly, this presentation will describe Orofacial Pain Conditions which more likely encountered in an older population. Lecture 2: Therapeutics in Dentistry This lunch and learn session will be focused on medications used in dentistry, their indications, interactions, and adverse reactions. Recent controversies and common problems in prescribing will be discussed.
