COACHES’ INFORMATION

PLEASE READ

The OFSAA Playing Regulations will be followed at all times

All racers and coaches must stay at the Blue Mountain Resort. See Accommodations section on website.

Accommodation reservation should be made by telephone under the group name

“2013

OFSAA ALPINE SKI CHAMPIONSHIPS

” (group reservation number –

GRP104106 ).

Reservations must be made by the coach or association convenor only by Saturday,

February 16, 2013 .

Accommodation in private chalets is strictly forbidden .

Lodging for all athletes and coaches will be verified by the organizing committee.

Any violation will result in disqualification.

REGISTERING ATHLETES FROM YOUR ASSOCIATION

The registering of athletes for the OFSAA Alpine Ski Championships will be coordinated by Sheila Barclay, the Race Secretary who is responsible for entries and results.

Sheila will be coordinating the process of registering athletes directly with the association entry coordinator (not the school or coach).

There are no OFSAA entry forms on the OFSAA Alpine Skiing Web Site.

An Eligibility List must be created by the school on AELS. See Create an

Eligibility List section on website for procedure.

* Your Bib and Lift Ticket must be worn during the race (including course inspection).

Access to restricted areas of the race course will be denied unless BOTH pieces of ID are displayed.

* Coaches displaying their ID may accompany their athletes during inspection but will not be permitted access to the restricted course area during the race.

* Coaches must return BIBS at the end of the 2 nd

run of the second day.

* The Official Notice Board where DQs will be posted will be the bottom of the race course or a designated area established at the coaches’ meeting.

* If a protest involves a coach who is also a member of the Race Jury or the Competition

Committee, that person shall withdraw himself/herself from participating in the protest hearing and shall be replaced by the race co-chair or another designate. A race co-chair shall be a non-voting member of each Jury.

* All area and Ontario Ski Resort Association rules regarding safe skiing at all times will be in effect. Ski Patrol has the right to clip a racer’s lift ticket. The penalty will be the removal of the racer from the start order of subsequent races and a DQ for all runs completed. The coach may appeal this decision to the Competition Committee.

* The C.S.P.S. shall have two patrollers on each hill on both days. They will be in contact with race organizers at all times.

* Disrespect to any official or employee of Blue Mountain or Blue Mountain Inn at any time will result in sanctions as per the “OFSAA Rules of Behaviour”

* All racers are asked to assist in the clean up after meals and to maintain their accommodation in a reasonable state of neatness

* All racers, coaches and officials will receive a three day lift ticket at registration. As well, each person will be issued a wrist bracelet for meals.

* For giant slalom races, the courses will be single panel. For slalom races, the courses will be single pole.

Both Level 1 and Level 2 will race slalom on the 1 st day and giant slalom on the 2 nd day.

* Dinner will not be served on Sunday evening

* Rooms at Blue Mountain may not be available until 4:00 pm on Sunday. It is necessary for everyone to arrive in ski wear if they wish to ski before their rooms become available. Storage room (Bay Street Room) will be available for storage on

Sunday from 12:00 noon to 7:00 pm

LEVELS, ENTRIES, AWARDS, EQUIPMENT

A. LEVELS

Level 1 Racer: Participants are school-trained athletes only. They have no ski league affiliation race training, past or present, beyond

Nancy Greene or the age of 10.

Level II Racer: All skiers are eligible for LEVEL II unless the skier is a member of the current year’s provincial team ( A, B, C ) or higher. If the racer is a member of one of these programs, he/she is ineligible for OFSAA

B. ENTRIES

* Each association may enter one (1) team in each level. A team consists of five

(5) members, five (5) to race, three (3) to count.

* Each association may enter an additional one (1) individual in each level.

The individual must attend a different school than the team entry.

* Additional Entry – an additional team entry will be awarded each year to the associations whose schools finish first at the previous year’s championship.

For 2013 , TDSSAA has been awarded an additional entry in Level 2 Girls;

CISAA has been awarded an additional team entry in Level 2 Boys.

GBSSA has been awarded additional team entries in Level 1 Girls and Level 1 Boys.

* All racers must complete the Racers Profile/Rules of Behaviour form which must be submitted at registration.

* Hardcopies which must be submitted at Registration:

(a) OFSAA Racers\ Profile/Rules of Behaviour Form

(b) OFSAA Release of Liability

(c) Blue Mountain Release of Liability

(d) Declaration of OFSAA Forms

(e) Photo Release Form if there are students who do not wish to be photographed

(f) OFSAA Fee Summary Form

(g) OFSAA Pin Order (if students wish to purchase OFSAA pins)

(h) Fee Summary Form

(i) Vegetarian meals (if requested by individuals)

(j) Blue Mountain Pass Waiver

Forms which must be available on site during the alpine ski championship and after the championship if requested (can be a hardcopy, on a computer, memory stick, etc.) :

C. AWARDS

* Awards will be presented in both Level I and Level II boys’ and girls’ slalom and giant slalom

* Winning teams will receive an OFSAA Championship Banner in each level and discipline

D. EQUIPMENT

All skiers must have ski brakes.

In both the OFSAA Giant Slalom and Slalom events, hard shell crash helmets

(designed for Giant Slalom alpine ski racing) which provide complete head protection (front and back) and full ear protection are mandatory for all Level 1 and Level 2 competitors.

FIS approved slalom helmets which must have a chin guard attached to the helmet and which bear the following certification codes (CEE 1077, US 2040, or Snell S98 or

R98) are permitted for OFSAA slalom specific events only . Otherwise, competitors must wear a GS helmet.

All competitors are expected to dress in clothing that is safe, neat, clean and which maintains the integrity of the school’s/ association name, colours and logos.

No sport club insignia shall be permitted (this includes National Team

Downhill Suits). A sport club is defined as a community, provincially or nationally based organization whose primary is participation in organized competition in single and multi-sport programs.

E. ATHLETES AND COACHES WHO HAVE A BLUE MOUNTAIN PASS

In order to keep our records correct, you must complete the “Blue Mountain Pass –

Waiver Form” and submit the form along with the valid card when you register. Lift ticket charges will be waived.

F. TRANSFERS

Please make sure that all athletes who have transferred to your school within the past twelve months have been approved by your association or OFSAA. You can obtain the Federation’s Transfer Appeal Form from your athletic director or your association representative.

G. MEALS & LIFT TICKETS

PLEASE NOTE: Only coaches and athletes who qualified for the OFSAA Alpine

Ski Championship can register. Any other students who accompany the team or any other parents cannot register with the team. They must take care of their own meals and lift tickets. We have made special arrangements with Blue Mountain for reduced daily lift tickets.

H. BANQUET DRESS

The dress is “SMART CASUAL ONLY” . Jeans, sweatsuits, pyjama bottoms, etc. will not be permitted . Inappropriate wording on clothing is not acceptable.
