4. The post
The postholder will have sessions at the Southern General Hospital, Victoria
Infirmary and the New Victoria Hospitals. The post will be 10 session post. A split of
9:1 between direct clinical care PAs and supporting professional activities is now the
advertised standard for all new consultant job plans in Scotland. The one SPA
minimum will reflect activity such as appraisal, personal audit and professional
development occurring outside study leave time. Once the candidate has been
appointed more SPA time may be agreed for activities such as undergraduate and
postgraduate medical training which takes place outside direct clinical care, as well
as research and/or management. These activities must be specifically and clearly
identified and be agreed with the candidate and desired by the department.
On call will be based predominantly at the Southern General Hospital but may be
based at the Victoria Infirmary subject to service needs, and will be on a 1st on call
role. As with established Consultants in Glasgow, job plan negotiation will take place
once appointed, under the Terms and Conditions of the New Consultant Contract.
The newly appointed Consultants may be offered EPA activity.
There are
established agreements across NHSGG & Clyde concerning the flexibility of SPAs
within the new contract, which would be applied to any new appointment. The post
holder will be expected to work flexibly to maintain their range of anaesthetic skills
and this will include work within general theatres and obstetric anaesthesia.

of West Glasgow's ambulatory care facilities, Gartnavel also has a purposebuilt day surgery unit. This has 4 theatres and supporting accommodation
includes an eight-bed recovery area, a 12 bedded second stage recovery area
and a six-bay reception/patient preparation area. In addition there is an
endoscopy suite, imaging department (including CT and interventional
radiology) and the main concentration of out-patient accommodation. The
breadth and complexity of services at Gartnavel has expanded considerably
over the past few years, with the development of the Brownlee Centre for
communicable diseases, the Glasgow Homeopathic Hospital, and the Beatson
Oncology Centre. The Beatson has linear accelerator radiotherapy units and
associated treatment planning facilities.

4. The post
The postholder will have sessions at the Victoria Infirmary, New Victoria
Hospital, Gartnavel General Hospital and Western Infirmary. The post will be
10 session post. A split of 9:1 between direct clinical care PAs and supporting
professional activities is now the advertised standard for all new consultant
job plans in Scotland. The one SPA minimum will reflect activity such as
appraisal, personal audit and professional development occurring outside
study leave time. Once the candidate has been appointed more SPA time
may be agreed for activities such as undergraduate and postgraduate medical
training which takes place outside direct clinical care, as well as research
and/or management. These activities must be specifically and clearly
identified and be agreed with the candidate and desired by the department.
On call will be based predominantly at the Victoria Infirmary but may be
based at the Southern General Hospital subject to service needs, and will be
on a predictable hybrid rota mixing 1st and 2nd on call roles. As with
established Consultants in Glasgow, job plan negotiation will take place once
appointed, under the Terms and Conditions of the New Consultant Contract.
The newly appointed Consultants may be offered EPA activity. There are
established agreements across NHSGG & Clyde concerning the flexibility of
SPAs within the new contract, which would be applied to any new
appointment. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly to maintain their
range of anaesthetic skills and this will include work within general theatres and
obstetric anaesthesia.
