Auctioneers Comments:
An increased entry of 211 prime cattle met another tremendous trade,
although just a touch easier as we enter the holiday period and more
grass cattle start to come forward but only a touch if anthing. Top was
202ppk
for
a
quality
pedigree
Limousin
bull
from
Messrs JC & JCM Carroll, which went to a new Monday buyer. Other
bulls rose to 167ppk for a well fleshed pedigree Devon from Mr D Barker.
Heifers rose to 196.5ppk for a peach of a Limousin from
Messrs JS & M Frost. Another superb Limousin heifer, this time from
Messrs JEF & KF Stephens achieved 192.5ppk, with others from the
same farm 189.5ppk, 187.5ppk, 187ppk (x2) and 186.5ppk. Top drawer
quality red Limousin from Messrs PA Strawbridge met a call of 192ppk.
Customary quality from Messrs TV & E Wotton sold at 191.5ppk, 190ppk
and 186.5ppk for continental heifers and 190ppk, 188.5ppk, and 187ppk
for steers. 190ppk was also received by Messrs JC & JCM Carroll for
their red Limousin steer. Three shapely, lean red Limousin steers from
Messrs DJ & DL Ward, first time Vendors, made an excellent introduction
at 188.5ppk, 187ppk and 182.5ppk. Other best steers: 185ppk, Limousin,
Mr DP Leaney; 183.5ppk and 183ppk, South Devon and Limousin,
Mr D Fishleigh and 183ppk, Simmental, Mr DE Abraham.
Best steers generally high 170’s, with heifers over 180ppk. Several lean
best steers and heifers mid to high 180’s as Vendors quite rightly sell
early to catch the trade. Better type steers low 170’s, when leaner types
were dearer as again Vendors chase the trade. Better heifers high 170’s
reflecting the quality and excellent butcher demand. Good steers around
170ppk as were heifers. Straight sided steers low 160’s, heifers low
150’s. Steers lacking high 150’s and heifers around 150ppk.
Overage heifers sold to 173.5ppk for a Limousin from
Messrs A & SA Edwards. Steers 169.5ppk for a Hereford from
Messrs CHJ Atwell & Sons.
Steers sold to £1,366.93 for the best from Messrs DJ & DL Ward. Others
to £1,344.93, £1,337.66, £1,330.00, £1,311.07 and £1,290.00 from
Messrs DJ & CM Mitchem. Many steers £1200 plus.
Heifers also over £1200 at £1,229.86 from Messrs JEF & KF Stephens
and £1,205.69 from Mr RW Mitchell. Messrs JEF & KF Stephens scored
again at £1,157.00 and £1,100.63, as did Mr RW Mitchell at £1,155.51.
Another just over £1,100.00 by 4p was from Mr MR Adams.
The young bull from Messrs JC & JCM Carroll achieved £1,367.54, when
a Charolais from Messrs RG & A Pearce sold at £1,240.96.
PLEASE NOTE: From 2010 all slaughter cattle will need to be entered with a
Food Chain Information Form, which will be part of our entry form.
