WHAT DO YOU THINK?
Museums often have to make difficult decisions about how and what objects
should be displayed to visitors. Below are some of the questions that many
museums are discussing today. There are no right or wrong answers to these
questions. But your opinions are very important and can help museums decide
what to do with their objects.
1. Many people today think that objects from archaeological
excavations should stay in the country in which they were
found except for special exhibitions. What do you think?
2. Some people also think that important objects now in
museums which were not from authorized excavations and
were taken out of the country many years ago should be
returned to the country they came from. What do you think?
3. Many museums obtained human mummies from private
collections many years ago. They were often put on
display as curiosities. Some people today do no think it is
right for museums to display human mummies. What do
you think? Does it make a difference to your thinking if
they are wrapped or unwrapped?
4. Another possibility is that museums could display more replicas
of ancient objects rather than the objects themselves. Do you
think museums should display more replicas?
