Sensitivity/Allergy to Monosodium Glutamate
UMass Dining Services is more than happy to assist you with avoiding products
containing MSG.
Please ask for the chef or manager of the dining commons you eat in for assistance
with your allergies or sensitivities. If you would like to set up an appointment with the
Dining Services Dietitian at UMass Dining, please call (413) 545-2472 or e-mail her at:
dietitian@umass.edu.
It is highly recommended that you set up an appointment with University Health
Services by calling (413) 577-5101 because a medical record is not started until you
have your first appointment. It would be beneficial to your health to make them aware
of your medical condition.
Be aware that nutrient analysis, ingredient and allergen information is available on our
web site under Nutrition: www.umassdining.com. The next page has instructions on
navigating through the web page to view ingredients.
Please be aware of the following points:
 UMass Dining does not add MSG as an ingredient to any recipes.
 The soup base that UMass Dining purchases does have MSG as an ingredient.
 UMass Dining does purchase products that contain MSG as an ingredient. You
can verify if MSG is in a product by going to the web site to see ingredients of
products in recipes or ask to speak with a management staff member.

 Click on the Nutrition tab (scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on
link for the Nutrition web page)
 Click on Nutrient Analysis
 Select a dining common (Worcester for Orientation and Berkshire for Summer
Camps)
 Select a day of the week
 Click on the apple
 Click on an underlined item to see the ingredients/allergens/nutrients
For nutrient analysis for one meal:
 Click on the Nutrition tab (scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on
link for the Nutrition web page)
 Click on Nutrient Analysis
 Select a dining common (Worcester for Orientation and Berkshire for Summer

 Select a day of the week
 Click on the apple
 Click box to left of items that you plan to eat and indicate quantity for each
item
 Scroll down and click report to get the nutrient analysis of an entire meal.
