 Ultrasound scans – You can arrange with your midwife to have these

in the event of an epidural being sited in labour or for attendance and
treatment in theatre (see page 3 )
 Antenatal classes (see page 3 )
 Telephone calls
 Alcoholic beverages and family/partner’s meals
Women choosing to book for midwife led care will be assessed at booking
and are required to be LOW RISK. In the event of an emergency on -call
obstetric assistance is available 24-hours from our main NHS labour ward
In the event that pregnancy status changes from LOW to HIGH risk and
transfer to Consultant care is required, additional Consultant fees will be
charged. This should be discussed with the Consultant at time of transfer. The
option of transfer to NHS care is available and fees will be calculated up to
date of transfer.

Please Note for Midwifery and Consultant Packages
Additional fees will be charged for treatment and procedures over and above
the packages. Additionally any drug treatments greater than £100 per delivery
will be charged for.
Babies that require transfer to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit will be treated as
NHS patients, and therefore will not be subject to further charges providing
the parent(s) are entitled to NHS treatment. Details of criteria for NHS
entitlement and applicable charges for Neonatal care can be provided upon
request.
All of the above prices exclude Anaesthetic and Consultant
Obstetrician charges if applicable.

Anaesthetic fees can differ depending on treatment required for each
individual woman. An average charge ranges from £300-£500, but may
increase if any maternal complications require further anaesthetic
assistance.

Women are required to vacate their room by midday on the day of
discharge. Beyond this time an additional fee of £100 per hour will be
charged. Exceptional circumstances must be discussed with the senior
midwife on charge.

*Antenatal classes are available as one full day Saturday session and are run
once per month. The cost of these classes will be £175. These are appropriate
for all women, as a preparation for delivery and newborn care. Classes should be
paid for in full when the class is booked and a cancellation fee of £100 will be
retained in the event of cancellation 48 hours or less, before the commencement
of the class. Refunds will not be possible once you are over 37 weeks pregnant.

Health Insurance
Most insurance companies do not cover normal labour and delivery although
in some incidences insurance companies are prepared to pay all or part of the
cost of stay. Your account will remain your responsibility at all times and we
will ask for full payment at time of discharge. Insurance settlement will be
between yourself and your insurance company although we will be happy to
assist with relevant documentation that may be requested.

Directory of Consultant Obstetricians
Gubby Ayida is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. A graduate of Somerville College, Oxford and St Thomas’
Medical School London, her higher training and clinical experience was gained mainly in major teaching hospitals. Gubby’s
guiding philosophy is based on a respect for pregnancy as a state of health, and childbirth as a normal, healthy physiological
process. Her obstetric care respects the diversity of women’s needs and the variety of personal and cultural values they bring with
them. She is a member of the High Risk Obstetric Team and lead clinician for the Labour Ward.

Keith Duncan is Consultant Obstetrician and Sub-Specialist in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at Chelsea and
Westminster. He is experienced in normal, assisted and caesarean delivery. His major interest is in obstetric ultrasound. He has
published many research papers and an MD thesis relating to development in utero and the management of multiple pregnancies.
He is currently the Members representative for London at the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists Council and is
also an Executive Committee Member of the British Association of Perinatal Medicine.

Hazem El-Refaey is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, who has pioneered several treatment modalities that
are widely implemented in women’s health. Through his research, he has an international reputation in minimizing
complications of childbirth. He graduated in Cairo in 1981 and has practised in the UK since 1984. Hazem is a leading clinician
for early pregnancy complications at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital and continues to research and lecture in this area. Hazem
is a liberal Obstetrician who believes that ensuring safety is his foremost duty.

Martin Lupton is a Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Chelsea and Westminster where he is part of the highrisk obstetric team. Along with Mark Johnson he leads the ‘Maternal Medicine’ service at Chelsea and Westminster. He teaches

Roger Marwood is a senior Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
Appointed in 1982 he has enormous experience in all aspects of pregnancy and its related problems. His philosophy is to place
the mother at centre stage and try to emphasise the normality of pregnancy wherever possible. His well established outpatient
practice is based in Harley Street. Roger has recently completed six years as Clinical Director for Women and Children’s
Services and now represents his London colleagues on the Council of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

Zoë Penn is a Consultant Obstetrician and was appointed at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in 1995. Her special
areas of interest are high risk pregnancy and labour ward care. She is part of the High Risk Pregnancy Team. She has extensive
experience of both conventional and active birth. She recognises the importance of keeping childbirth normal and is a strong

Makrina Savvidou is a Consultant Obstetrician and Sub-Specialist in Fetal and Maternal Medicine at Chelsea and

Nick Wales is a Consultant 0bstetrician and Gynaecologist based at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital where he is a
member of the High Risk Pregnancy team. His private obstetric practice is exclusive to the Kensington Wing. Nick offers a
variety of maternity care options, encompassing an extended midwifery role; he also offers acupuncture for symptom relief in

Birth and Beyond Course
Chelsea, Notting Hill Gate, Chiswick and
Wandsworth
Congratulations on your pregnancy and if you are having your baby on the Private
Maternity Wing at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, New Baby Company runs their
recommended independent ante-natal course.
The course takes place in four locations, Chelsea, Notting Hill Gate, Chiswick and
Wandsworth, in the evenings from 6.30pm-8.30pm. The course consists of 8 classes
run once a week and fathers can attend up to 4 of those classes.
The course is unlike any other in London - as we cover the birth and take you
beyond that up to the first three months after your baby is born.
