Obtain catalogs and information on admissions, scholarships and financial aid for the schools you are considering. Be wary of scholarship search and financial aid services that charge a fee. Create portfolio. Research military education benefits. o o o o o Research/apply for private outside scholarships. October 3 SAT exam. September 12 – ACT exam September 18th – Registration deadline for October 24th ACT exam. Finalize college list with deadlines and application requirements and schedule visits. November o o o o o o November 6 – Registration deadline for December 12 ACT exam. November 2 – SAT exam November 8 – Registration deadline for December 7 SAT Begin submitting your college applications. BE AWARE OF DEADLINES! Obtain financial aid forms from the colleges, if different from the FAFSA. Stay focused! Senior year grades can affect your admittance to the college of your choice. o o o o o December 5 – SAT exam December 12 – ACT exam December 28 – Registration deadline for January 23 SAT exam. Finish all draft applications and essays for colleges – go over with counselor, teacher, and parent. Check deadlines and submit all applications. Apply for outside funding and/or scholarships. PARENTS: Gather your income tax returns or save your year-end payroll stub if it shows your earnings for the year to prepare the FAFSA. Go to: www.pin.ed.gov to obtain a PIN for the student and separate PIN for at least one parent if the student is a dependent. Print out a FAFSA form to begin filling it out. February o o o o February 5 – Registration deadline for March 5 SAT exam. February 6 – ACT exam Check deadlines for AP (Advanced Placement) Tests and CLEP exams. Check that colleges have all necessary financial aid papers. Keep studying and working hard. Your second semester grades can affect your scholarship eligibility. o o o o March 4 – Registration deadline for April 9 ACT exam. March 5 – SAT exam Watch for your Student Aid Report (SAR), which is a result of the FAFSA you filed. If you have not received your SAR within four weeks, call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4FED-AID. Make sure all the colleges to receive your FAFSA are listed on your SAR. Ask your counselor about local scholarship opportunities. May o o o o o o May 1 – Submit deposit to the college you are attending. May 7 – SAT exam May 6 – Registration deadline for June 11 ACT exam. May 5 – Registration deadline for June 4 SAT exam. Take any AP or CLEP exams for which you qualify. Ask your counselor to send a final grade transcript to the college you have chosen. Return all necessary documents including financial aid and housing forms to college. o o o o o o o o o June 4 – SAT exam June 11 – ACT exam Notify your college about any outside scholarships that you have received. Attend any orientation sessions your college offers. This is a great opportunity to meet people and get familiar with the campus. April 9 – ACT exam April 8 – Registration deadline for May 5 SAT exam. Review college responses and aid offers with parents and counselor. Write thank you notes to individuals who wrote recommendations for you. Write withdrawal letters to colleges you will not attend. Make final decision – send deposit by May 1. July o o o Contact your roommate and get to know him/her. Decide who is bringing the TV, stereo, refrigerator, etc. Don’t forget to file the FAFSA in January for each year you are in college.
