JOB DESCRIPTION VICE-PRESIDENT (POSTGRADUATE STUDIES, RESEARCH AND COMMUNITY SERVICE) Department: President’s Office Classification: Academic and Administrative Approved: March 2012 Reports to: BUE President No. of Direct Reports: 5 JOB PURPOSE To contribute to the broad strategic development of BUE as a key member of the University’s Executive Group, with specific overall responsibility for the design and delivery of quality postgraduate, research and community services. The Vice-President (R&CS) will work closely with the Deans, the Faculty Research Co-ordinators and the Centre for Consultancy and Community Service in a number of related areas; and with other members of the Executive Group as appropriate. RESPONSIBILITIES To lead the development, implementation and monitoring of the University’s strategic aims and objectives, and related policies, for research, community service, enterprise and knowledge transfer within the context of the University’s vision and mission To lead the administrative work necessary for the establishment, development and delivery of successful postgraduate programmes by the University To oversee and monitor implementation of the strategic and operational plans for research and community service by the Faculties To oversee and monitor implementation of the strategic and operational plans for community service by the Department of English To work closely with senior managers and to contribute to the wider leadership and management of the University as a member of the University Board, the University Senate and the Executive Group To undertake such formal responsibilities as are set out in the Presidential Decree 411/2004 and relevant Egyptian Legislation and regulations To provide executive leadership to the Faculty Deans and Head of English in support of the work of the University in the areas of research and community service To appoint academic and related staff as delegated by the President To assist the University President in fulfilling his/her responsibilities in relation to the University policies and strategic development To chair the University Research Committee and ensure its effective operation and implementation of its decisions To develop plans to strengthen University ties with industry and promote the services offered by the University to industry and the community To ensure that the University provides an academic environment which is attractive to first-rate research active staff and appealing to students of high potential across the range of programmes of study available To promote the University, both nationally and internationally To support operating Research Centres in their pursuit of research funding, high calibre researchers and world recognition To oversee the management of the High Performance Research Laboratory To pursue collaborative research agreements with established research active international universities To work with the President, Vice-President (Teaching and Learning), Deans and Academic Director to develop and oversee implementation of the University’s strategy for the recruitment and retention of research active staff with substantial teaching experience of UK higher education To undertake other duties as reasonably may be required by the President.
