LADSE Job Description: Assistive Technology Consultant Summary: Provide support for district and LADSE programs/personnel regarding assistive technology needs. Because of the wide diversity of Assistive Technology needs and the methods or tools for meeting those needs, every effort is made to ensure specialists from multiple disciplines participate on this team. Team members work individually, in small groups, or in large groups. Likewise, they might address the needs of individuals, small groups, or large groups of students in educationally relevant settings. Reports To: Program Coordinator/Administrator Qualifications: Multiple professional qualifications are appropriate for this position Master’s degree from an accredited college or university program in Special Education Teaching A valid Illinois certificate or license endorsed for special education teaching A valid Illinois driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle in order to drive between service provision locations in member districts. OR Type 73 or Type 10/03/09 Speech Language Pathologist, or equivalent license; OR Current Illinois license to practice Occupational Therapy with experience in public Schools; OR Current Illinois license to practice Physical Therapy with experience in public schools; AND A valid Illinois driver’s license with access to a reliable, insured vehicle in order to drive between service provision locations. And one or more of the following: Credit hours of strand professional development or pre-approved college/university courses relating to job requirements; Experience and expertise working in a similar assignment with assistive technology process, tools, and strategies; LBS ll Certification/licensure, endorsed for Assistive Technology. Physical The job requires light physical exertion (e.g., lifting, carrying materials or supplies, Requirements: driving, clerical tasks while sitting or standing, and mobility) with the possibility of occasional moderate exertion (e.g., lifting more than 15 lbs.); assisting students or staff during instruction or therapy). Independent transportation is also required because LADSE staff frequently work in multiple locations within the LADSE community. April 2013 D:\533569472.doc LADSE Job Description: Assistive Technology Consultant Professional Evaluation: Standard practice is to conduct evaluations annually for the first four years, bi-annually in subsequent years. Evaluations are conducted by the applicable program coordinator or designee. Contract: Length of contract, salary, and benefits are established by the Collective Bargaining Agreement and/or the LADSE Directing Board. Status: Exempt Essential Functions (Duties & Responsibilities) General 1. Adhere to professional, ethical, and legal standards for the practice of the discipline in the schools, as dictated by associated organizations, (e.g. ISBE, Infinitec). 2. Implement practices consistent with the Danielson Framework for Teaching 3. Implement LADSE's policies and procedures. 4. See Employee Handbook - General Duties, Responsibilities, and Competencies. 5. Drive own car, or otherwise provide for transportation between assignment locations. Specific Domain 1: Planning and Preparation 1. Demonstrate knowledge of evaluation procedures, intervention planning, tools and strategies, trends and best practices in assistive technology. 2. Provide information to teams and consumers regarding AT resources available within the district, cooperative and community agencies, (e.g., Infinitec) funding agencies/sources. Domain 2: Classroom Environment 1. Provide consultation and technical assistance to general and special education staff, administrators and parents regarding assistive technology in educational planning and encourage a culture of professional inquiry. 2. Establish a clear procedure for school teams to access assistive technology services. 3. Establish positive working relationships and model effective communication skills with teachers, staff, administrators, parents and community agencies. Domain 3: Delivery of Service 1. Guide teams in the assessment and problem-solving process when determining options for assistive technology supports/tools effective in improving student outcomes. 2. Collaborate with educational teams to develop assistive technology implementation plans, instructional lessons and data-collection systems to monitor the use of various assistivetechnology interventions across school, home and community settings. 3. Provide district and LADSE staff, parents and students with ongoing consultative support, professional development and training on assistive technology applications in school environments. 4. Provide guidance and professional development to district and LADSE staff on instructional technology options, access to digital text, and universally designed software/curriculum to increase learning outcomes for all students. Collect and prepare data to analyze districts’ utilization of Assistive Technology Consultation services. 2. Engage in professional development to remain current on research, assessment, intervention, and legal issues in assistive technology. 3. Maintain equipment utilized in the diagnostic and consultation process and make recommendations regarding acquisitions for assistive technology inventory. 4. Provide technical assistance and consultative support for educational teams regarding the use assistive-technology equipment devices, and strategies. 5. Guide educational teams in planning and developing assistive technology implementation plans for students. 6. Guide educational teams in developing a system to monitor the appropriate use of assistive technology interventions across school, home, and community settings. 7. Provide input into the development of systematic procedures for providing teams with assistive technology support. 8. Continually improve professional knowledge and skills directly related to the position. 9. Provide information to teams and consumers regarding funding resources. 10.
