Music has been in Egypt since civilization first began. Music was used to pass time will working the fields. The pharos listened to music because; they said music was for the gods. One of the musical instruments was called the Oaru. It is a smaller version of the modern guitar. Workers sang while building the great pyramids of Giza. When the rein of the pharos were over Egypt was becoming less powerful. So people from across the Sahara Dessert were becoming equal. Africa is a continent that has many rain forests and many desserts. With this there were many tribes spread across. Every tribe had a different culture so they had different music to express there culture. Egypt was one of the many to start becoming more modern. By the 1920’s Egypt was listing to artists on the radio just like America was. Because it was the 1920’s Egypt wasn’t dirt and sand it had roads and highways. So people on the way from work would listen to the radio. Even though some places in Egypt was listing to more modern music in the 20’s some places were still very traditional. By the 50’s and 60’s Egypt wasn’t listening to artist in America such as Chuck Berry, they were listing to people in Egypt who were writing songs. Egypt was also making on the Billboard charts all over Africa. Egypt was also listing to traditional music but in very little places. Egypt even had there own little Woodstock in 1967. By 2009 present day Egypt is listing to rap and pop just as much as America is. Such artists are Hakim. They call him “the lion of Egypt”. Other artists are Mahoumd Fadl. They call him the drummer of the Nile. Egypt has come along way then what it used to be. By: Alex Stodder S
