Studio Happenings_____________________
An Art Newsletter from the studio of Eileen Downes
…the artist who “paints” with bits of torn paper instead of paint from the palette
I am excited to continue the publication of this bi-annual (November and June)
newsletter concerning my artwork, my life experiences, and studio happenings;
I am eager to share such news with my friends, family, collectors, galleries, and
fellow art aficionados. I hope you enjoy the material.

Sacramento, CA (www.20art.net). I hope you get an
opportunity to see this fun exhibition.
In addition, I have been producing images for
my Beauty and the Brain Series which is my
way of honoring acclaimed US neurosurgeons
for their compassion and tremendous strides
made in the field of neurosurgery. I have
been tremendously blessed by the heartwarming
stories from patients and their loved-ones about
the highly skilled, caring doctors. The latest in
this Series went to nationally acclaimed
neurosurgeon,
Dr. Chandranath Sen, of Saint Luke’s
Roosevelt Hospital in New York City.

2006 has been productive and exciting for me
with exhibitions in the beautiful island community
of New Zealand, Chicago IL, Lexington KY,
Austin TX, San Rafael CA, as well as here in
Sacramento.
In the fall, I was honored to be chosen to take part in
an exciting exhibition called Art-At-TheCathedral in Lexington, Kentucky. This
innovative, national art show displayed work from
60 artists representing all parts of the United States.
You can view this inspiring show online at
www.artconnectbg.org. The works of art which
focus on beliefs of all religious faiths are displayed
throughout different places of worship across the
city of Lexington as part of their community
awareness about art and religion. This exhibition
was made
possible in part
by funding from
the National
Endowment for
the Arts

On-Going Studio Creations_______
Inspired by a recent family vacation to the
California coast, I have begun a new series
embracing imagery from Stinson Beach.
Title: Stinson
Beach Series
No. 3
Medium: Collage
Size: 18” x 24”
The
Stinson
Beach
Series
captures
the mood and inviting spirit of this picturesque
coastal community. We were also fortunate to be
able to visit the Butterfly Gardens in the Canadian
city of Victoria. In direct response to a delightful
circumstance where a butterfly landed on my
youngest daughter’s shoe, I am busily working on
my God’s
Wings Series
about the
graceful
beauty of
butterflies
for
exhibition in
the spring of
2007.

Favorite Artist’s quote of the week:
Drawing is like making an expressive gesture
with the advantage of permanence.
