(Although the post is based at Central Office staff are expected to work from alternative premises if required and may be required to relocate)
NUGENT CARE
Nugent Care is the social work service of the Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool. The origins of Nugent Care date back to
Victorian Liverpool and the pioneering work of Father James Nugent (1822-1905) in relation to child welfare, poverty relief and social reform.
Today Nugent Care is one of the leading charities in the North West of England, caring for children, disabled and marginalised people of all ages. We continue to fulfil a major social welfare role throughout the North West by acting as both a service provider and a major employer. The scale of our work is immense and we currently provide the following services;
Residential Special Schools, including day places;
Children’s homes, including a secure unit;
Care Homes for adults and older people;
A very wide range of Community Services for children and adults of all ages;
Supported living services;
Adoption agency work;
Day Nurseries

JOB TITLE: Marketing and Communications Manager
ACCOUNTABLE TO: Director of Finance and Business Support
OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE POST:

In conjunction with the Director of Finance and Business Support to promote a corporate communications strategy, and to actively market Nugent Care to a wide audience internally and externally
To ensure the effective and efficient management and operation of the marketing, and communications section of Nugent Care within all legislative and statutory requirements and good practice guidelines
3 To advise on, and to become involved in, social justice issues and campaigns.
To line manage staff accountable to this position.
4 During the development of Nugent Care additional duties and line management
responsibilities may be added to this post. The post holder may be required to work
from alternative establishments at any time.
1. MAIN DUTIES WITHIN THE AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
1.1 To lead the marketing and communications section of Nugent Care.
1.2 To work closely with the Director of Finance and Business Support to identify marketing and promotional opportunities that staff at various levels within the organisation should prioritise/attend.
1.3 To write, advise on and implement marketing and communications strategies for Nugent Care including e-
Marketing / Website strategies.
1.4 To develop new promotional material and marketing campaigns for Nugent Care projects as agreed/required.

1.5 To proactively market Nugent Care using electronic media in accordance with an e-Marketing/Website strategy.
To also utilise social media to market Nugent Care. To use social media to advertise Nugent Care services, fundraise and advise on advertising vacant positions. To set up or join social media groups on behalf as or in the name of Nugent Care.
1.6 In conjunction with the IT department to ensure the web pages of Nugent Care are kept up to date.
1.7 To become involved in the preparation of materials for a variety of promotional events including the design of adverts, web pages etc.
1.8 To take advantage of local and national initiatives that will positively promote Nugent Care
1.9 To work closely with the Fundraising Manager to coordinate attendance at networking events, business fairs and conferences.
1.10 To advise on, and plan, relevant social justice issues and campaigns, and to lead on such campaigns.
1.11 To keep up to date with parliamentary, legislative and other initiatives which are relevant for social justice campaigns.
1.12 To develop close working relationships with the media, and to write press releases, articles and reports to promote Nugent Care ensuring a planned press coverage and profile
1.13 To keep the Chief Executive and relevant members of the Senior Management team fully informed of any areas of concerns found within the sphere of responsibility
1.14 To be available for out of hours calls in relation to press and marketing emergencies.
1.15 To ensure that the budget of the department is well controlled
1.16 To advise/train/coach staff in preparation for media opportunities
1.17 To diffuse negative publicity in an efficient manner.
1.18 To work closely with the Fundraising Manager coordinating marketing activity with fundraising activity including joint team meetings,
1.19 To jointly line manage the Administrator in conjunction with the Fundraising Manager agreeing suitable supervision arrangements that reflect the requirements of that post.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
It is the nature of the work of Nugent Care that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances, unpredictable and varied and may include evening and weekend working. All staff are, therefore, expected to work in a flexible way when the tasks not specifically covered in their job description have to be undertaken. These additional duties will normally be to cover unforeseen circumstances or changes in work and they will normally be compatible with their regular type of work. If the additional responsibility or task becomes a regular or frequent part of staff’s job it will be included in the job description after consultation with the member of staff.

Nugent Care is a Charity and as such relies on its good reputation and voluntary contributions and donations from members of the public, from grant making bodies and corporate sponsorship.

BASIC PRINCIPLES
The post holder is expected to be familiar with and work within the Basic Principles of Nugent Care. He/she must be prepared to operate within a Catholic Agency, while ensuring that people of other denominations and religions have their spiritual needs met.
CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
The Conditions of Service are set out in the Nugent Care Handbook.
Nugent Care has a probationary period of up to twelve months. A probationary appraisal will take place at nine months with an initial performance review at the six month stage.
