Lesson Topic: Story Collage People have expressed experiences and ideas through the arts throughout time and across cultures. PA Common Core Standard(s): 9.1.12A, 9.1.12B, 9.1.12E, 9.1.12F, 9.1.12H, 9.2.12I, 9.3.12A, 9.4.12A Introduction (include Sponge Activity): Monday to Friday: Students will begin each period by gathering their materials and begin working. Academic Vocabulary: Image, Folk tale, Fairy Tale, Fable, Construction Paper, Scissors, Glue, Brainstorming Materials and Resources: --Examples of collage -Computers with internet access and printers -various colors of construction paper -Books of short stories and fairytales -scissors -glue -glitter -yarn Objective(s): S.W.B.A.T. -Upon the successful completion of the lesson, students will be able to find a short story, fairytale or fable that they enjoy. -Upon the successful completion of the lesson, students will be able to use a pencil to draw shapes on to construction paper. -Upon the successful completion of the lesson, students will be able to use scissors to cut construction paper. -Upon the successful completion of the lesson, students will be able to use glue to adhere construction paper pieces together. -Upon the successful completion of the lesson, students will be able to create a rough sketch depicting their projected final composition. -Upon the successful completion of the lesson, students will be able to depict an entire short story, fable or fairytale in one image. -Upon the successful completion of the lesson, students will be able to gather and properly store appropriate art room materials. -Upon the successful completion of the lesson, students will be able to formally critique their own work as well as the work of their peers. Procedures and Content Presentation: Monday: Show examples of Story collage project. Allow students to find a fable, fairy tale or short story Have students highlight key images within their chosen fable, fairy tale or short story. Have students create a list of imagery to include in their collage. Circulate and help as needed. Tuesday: Allow students to work on their story collage. Circulate and help as needed. Wednesday: Allow students to work on their story collage. Circulate and help as needed. Thursday: Allow students to work on their story collage Circulate and help as needed. Friday: Allow students to work on their story collage. Circulate and help as needed. Differentiation (List alterations that meet the needs of all students): Help each student individually as needed. Formative Assessments: Completed Story collage which depicts a fairy tale, short story or fable and exhibits a high level of craftsmanship. Summary and Closure: Upon completion of this lesson students will be able to have an understanding of how to pick out major elements of a story, create imagery by cutting and gluing construction paper, and how to exhibit good craftsmanship through the process.
