Comprising Galway University Hospitals ,Portiuncula Hospital Ballinasloe Galway , Mayo General
Hospital , Sligo Regional Hospital and Letterkenny Regional Hospital and Roscommon Hospital. The
group provided a comprehensive range of Medical, Surgical, Paediatric and Obstetric Services to
emergency and elective patients on an inpatient, outpatient and day care basis across the WestNorth region of Ireland. All hospitals in the group play a leadership role in the acute service delivery
serving a catchment area of one million people. All Hospitals in the Group are affiliated to the
National University of Ireland at Galway and are involved in the training of medical and other health
care professionals. The West of Ireland is renowned for its natural beauty mild climate and has
excellent schools and access to Universities. The Hospital staff and the general population are
welcoming, friendly and helpful. There is good airport connection at Knock International Airport
Shannon Airport and Derry Airport all in the region there is good train, bus and road transport to all
areas.
The Group has vacancies for the following Medical Staff all post are for one year initially with a view
to extending further. Assistance will be provided to suitable candidates with flights and initial
accommodation requirements. The candidates must be eligible for registration with the Irish
Medical Council these requirements can be checked on www.irishmedicalcouncil.ie. All applicants
must have good communication skills in English both written and spoken. All post are in busy acute
hospitals settings.

General Medical Registrar
Emergency Medicine Registrars is a separate speciality in Ireland and covers all emergency
presentations to the an acute hospital this includes minor injuries up to and including major
trauma and major medical emergencies such as acute MI ,Stroke ,Respiratory issues and all
emergency medical issues.
General Medicine Registrars.
The majority of these posts in addition to general medicine have a speciality interest such as
cardiology, endocrinology, respiratory, gastroenterology and care of the elderly. The ideal
registrar candidate will have completed a rotation of 3/6 months through each of the above
specialities and have a minimum of 2/3 basic experiences. In addition they should have to 12 years registrar experience in general medicine ideally with one of the specialities detailed
above.
Anaesthesia Registrars
Covers all areas of anaesthesia including intensive care doctors for these post should also
have experience of obstetric anaesthesia.
Paediatrics Registrars
Theses post covers acute medical paediatrics from neonatology up to children of fourteen
years presenting to hospital with medical problems.
Oncology –Haematology Registrars
Covers the above patient group receiving day treatment Monday to Friday in Mayo General
Hospital .The doctor is require to have oncology experience of 1-2 years.
Details regarding the above Posts
The salary scale for registrars for the above posts is based on recognised and approved
experience and ranges from €50578 to €60305 in addition overtime is paid for on call and
weekend work.
Various courses are paid for these include ACLS, APLS and ATLS in addition a contribution is
made towards Membership exams. A detailed orientation will be given prior to commencing
employment.
Leave entitlement includes 6 weeks holiday leave per year and generous course and study
leave for approved exams and courses.
