WORK EXPERIENCE
1994 to the present: Lahore School of Economics; Assistant Professor in Sociology at the
undergraduate level. Associate Editor of the Lahore Journal of Economics.
1992-1994: The Nation newspaper, Lahore. Wrote economic editorials and op-ed articles
as well as edited articles.
1991: Shirkat Gah (A women’s resource centre): Administrative work.
1989: The Friday Times, Lahore, Research Editor. Wrote a weekly column on political
events as well as a series on working women and non-governmental organizations.
1988: Aurat Foundation (A women’s NGO), Lahore., Research work. Wrote on women
and the environment, the Government Women’s Polytechnic, Lahore and other related
topics. Also presented a paper at a workshop on “The portrayal of women in school
curricula”.
1987: The Agha Khan University, Karachi, Research Assistant. Field work and research
on a leprosy project and another on malnutrition in children below the age of 5. The
approach was medical anthropological.
1986: Asia and Pacific Skill Development Program (APSDEP), a project of the ILO in
Islamabad, Research Assistant. Worked on the informal sector, country profiles on
vocational training in the Asia Pacific region and appropriate technology.
1979: Temporary lectureship at the Punjab University, Lahore. Lectured the Public
Administration class on Development Economics.
1978: Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE), Islamabad, Economic
Research Assistant. Worked on nationalization, industrialization and development issues.
