Job Description - General Manager, North General Manager responsible for the successful leadership and operation of all H2O Chemicals business in the North East and North West of England, and Scotland. Full responsibility for the development of the business in line with H2O Chemicals’ strategy for market leadership through profitable growth by: maximising the potential of the company’s services, products and skilled teams in the Northern areas: ensuring the highest standards in customer delivery and satisfaction, maintaining H2O Chemicals’ reputation as one of the most respected firms in the industry. Reporting to the Managing Director, performing a prominent role in the company’s leadership team. The key responsibilities of the role are as follows: 1. Create and maintain a clear and practical strategy for H2O Chemicals’ business in the North, aligned to the company’s overall growth strategy a. Effective strategic planning to provide a rigorous framework for the development of the business, encompassing business goals, marketing, sales, service and product delivery, customer satisfaction, and team management and development. b. Ensure effective engagement of managers and staff in the development of the strategy, building shared vision and ownership. c. Maintain and utilise effectively commercial awareness of local markets and competitor activity to inform business strategy. d. Translate the strategic plan into a detailed business plan, in accordance with the company’s planning standards, to provide a sound basis for the P&L management of the business and the delivery of its annual targets. 2. Marketing and sales a. Maintain a clear understanding of business needs and emerging trends within the client base and target market sectors, building close relationships with senior players. b. Deploy local and central marketing resources to maximise their effectiveness in raising the profile of the business and in lead generation. Ensure the positioning of our services and products to maximise market differentiation and potential for sales success. c. Ensure the effective performance of the Sales Team. Through personal leadership in sales, ensure that the Sales Team is most effectively managed, targeted, organised and skilled to both develop new customer business, and grow existing account relationships. d. Use rigorous sales forecasting techniques to provide the clearest possible forward view of sales performance and enable timely action. e. Maximise the business’s success rate by ensuring the production of high quality bids (quotes) that are structured to connect unambiguously with client business needs. 3. Delivery and operations a. Accountable for successful delivery of all H2O Chemicals’ customer services and products in the North. b. Ensure that what the business delivers matches clients’ needs effectively, whilst delivering the planned return to the company for the work. c. Ensure that costs are optimised across the business to maximise profitability whilst maintaining quality of service. d. Responsible for effective governance and application of company policies in technical delivery and the maintenance of the highest health and safety standards. e. Ensure clear management visibility and control of delivery activities with effective tracking and performance reporting. 4. Team a. Responsible for the effective organisation, management and performance of the region’s team. b. Implement and maintain an effective management and organisational structure for the region, with appropriate delegation of responsibilities. c. Responsible for ensuring the effective management, assignment and targeting of sales staff in accordance with agreed goals and objectives for the financial year. d. Ensure the team is fully equipped to achieve their targets by ensuring they have the necessary equipment, training, and support. e. Performance management of staff, including conducting performance reviews and holding regular progress meetings to company standards. f. Encourage a positive working and learning environment that develops individuals’ skills to their benefit and that of the business. g. Responsible for the identification of staff and skills requirements. Develop and maintain a recruitment plan to match business demand effectively, efficiently and completely. 5. Reporting relationships and management team a. Member of the H2O Chemicals Management Team, reporting to the Managing Director. b. Monthly reporting: i. Report on the progress of the business against its goals and agreed budget; ii. Carefully considered forecast of business performance and profit delivery, based on committed revenues and projected pipeline sales. c. Fulfil a key leadership role within the business. As a member of the Management Team participate actively in the wider strategic development and management of the H2O Chemicals business. d. Work collaboratively, in an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect, with other members of the Management Team and directors to uphold company values and ensure the business meets its strategic and operational goals.
