IRRI, CROP PHYSIOLOGIST (Scientist) IRRI, Temperate Rice Breeder (Scientist/Senior Scientist) CROP PHYSIOLOGIST (Scientist) Rice is life for millions of people around the world. At the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), a team of more than 1,000 world-class scientific and support staff are working to reduce poverty through rice science. We are seeking a dynamic, innovative Scientist to employ advanced plant physiology research approaches for developing improved rice varieties with increased yield potential, excellent grain quality and tolerance to rising temperatures. RESPONSIBILITIES The successful candidate will establish an innovative field and controlled environment research program on the physiological basis of traits determining yield potential and heat tolerance in rice - from genes to plant organs, whole plant and the crop canopy. Working closely with breeders, geneticists and others he/she will contribute to developing new varieties with increased yield potential and better adaptation to climate change. REQUIREMENTS Candidates should have a PhD in plant/crop physiology or related disciplines; minimum 3 years of post-PhD research experience in plant physiology, molecular biology or related disciplines; strong background in plant physiology, including good understanding of genetics and molecular biology and breeding approaches; good understanding of yield potential and agronomic management concepts for growing crops at yield potential level; demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality lab-to-field research on complex crop physiological processes; and excellent written and spoken English. This internationally recruited position will be based at the International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) headquarters in Los Baños, Laguna, Philippines, with a competitive compensation and benefit package. IRRI provides a multicultural work environment that reflects the values of gender equality, teamwork, and respect for diversity. Women are encouraged to apply.
