Northeast Normal University is the only comprehensive normal university under the direct administration
of the Ministry of Education in Northeast China and is one of the universities given priority in the
establishment of “211 Project”.
Northeast Normal University has maintained a long history and offered study in a full range of subject
areas in Philosophy, Economics, Law, Pedagogy, Literature, History, Science, Technology, Agriculture
and Management. NENU currently comprises 19 schools and a graduate school offering 56 undergraduate
degrees, 146 M.A. degrees and 78 PhD. degrees. In recent years, NENU has made great progress in
applied subjects and new interdisciplinary subjects while keeping the traditionally strong subjects. NENU
enjoys high reputation in subjects of Chinese Language and Literature, Learning Pedagogy, History and
Life Science.
NENU is authorized to hold the HSK(Proficiency Test of Chinese Language) and the Qualification Test of
Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language. NENU has successively established exchanging relations with
150 overseas universities and research institutions in over 20 countries and regions. Since 1950s, NENU
has received more than 6,000 international students from more than 70 countries and regions.

The faculty of Chemistry of Northeast Normal University (NENU) is known as one of innovative leaders
in the research, teaching and study of issues concerning chemistry. The faculty of chemistry of NENU is a
centre of excellence for graduate studies, research, field development, initial and continuing chemistry
teacher education in China. The faculty of Chemistry of NENU offers the International MA graduate
studies program leading to master degrees and certificates of advanced study for senior scholars. The
program is designed for international studies with various cultural and educational backgrounds. There
are different disciplines and various research directions within the field of chemistry. After accomplishing
chemical foundation courses, the students could choose to work in different research directions under
supervision.

SCHOOL OF LIFE SCIENCE
NORTHEAST NORMAL UNIVERSITY

The School of life science is composed of two departments (Department of Biology and Department of
Biotechnology), two research institutes (Institute of Genetics and Cytology, and Institute of Grassland
Science), and one national laboratory (Laboratory of Grassland Ecology Engineering). The School also
has a variety of teaching and research facilities including the Electron Microscope Center, the
Experimental Center, the Biology Library, the Biological Specimens Museum, etc. the school of life
science is known as one of innovative leaders in the research, teaching and study of issues concerning
biology. Currently, the School of Life Sciences has a faculty of 102 members, among 71 teaching stuff,
33 are entitled the full professorship, 20 are associate professors,30 PhD supervisors, 1 academician of
the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 appraiser of the Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, 3
Professors of Yangtze River Scholar Awarding Program, 2 young experts of distinguished contribution in
national level, 2 gainers of the National Science Fund of Distinguished Young Scholars of China,4 first
team experts of province, 2 appraisers of the biology education directing committee of education ministry,
7 young experts of distinguished contribution in provincial level.
The school has two key national laboratories: cell biology and ecology and two key laboratories of
ministry of education: laboratory for vegetation ecology and laboratory of epigenetics; one research
center of agricultural and pharmaceutical protein in transgenic plants under the ministry of education and
one innovative research group under the ministry of education and one base of intellectual introduction
and academic innovation on the research of plant genes(111 project);Meanwhile, the school also sets up
central laboratory of central biology and post-doctoral research station for biology.
Currently, the school enrolls 130 undergraduates, 130 graduates and 60 students with phd degree. The
school is authorized as an institute with the first class major of doctoral degree. The School of Life
Sciences has 11 programs for MA application, including curriculum and teaching, botany, zoology,
physiology, micro-biology, genetics, cell-biology, biochemistry and molecular biology, biophysics,
ecology and molecular biology and 9 graduate programs for PhD degree including zoology, botany,
physiology, genetics, cell biology, ecology, microbiology, biochemistry and molecular biology, etc.
