FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jennifer Caballero (626) 449-2742, ext. 12 j.caballero@pacificasiamuseum.org Pasadena’s Pacific Asia Museum Debuts All-New Korean Gallery PASADENA, CA (February 1, 2007) – A bright new spot at Pacific Asia Museum is a small gallery space dedicated to the boldness, vigor, and vitality of the arts of Korea, which has always occupied a pivotal position in the transmission of artistic styles and innovations within Asia. The gallery contains ancient and contemporary Korean sculpture, paintings, ceramics and decorative objects. A focal point of the gallery is the 16th century gilt bronze seated Buddha that clearly indicates an adaptation of a traditional Chinese style to reflect native Korean tastes. In contrast, the entryway to the gallery features a selection of wall-mounted contemporary paper sculptures created by artist Jun Eun Park for the recent exhibition at Pacific Asia Museum “Banquet: A Feast for the Senses” which the artist will be loaning to the museum. Park’s whimsical and delicate sculptures created in 2006 complement the ancient works displayed nearby, such as a stoneware jar from the Three Kingdoms period (1st century BC - AD 668). Related lectures, docent-led tours and special events will be scheduled in 2007. Pacific Asia Museum is located at 46 North Los Robles Avenue, one half-block north of Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. The Korean Gallery is included with regular museum admission: $7 general, $5 seniors/students.
