Cashing Selling Age Restricted Products SELLING AGE RESTRICTED PRODUCTS Purpose This was created to guide each and every employee on the legal ages, restricted products and how to properly sell them while complying with state and federal laws. Pursuant to federal or state law you must be: 18 years of age to purchase: Cigarettes Tobacco Products Rolling Papers Lighter/Matches Adult Magazines Lotto & Lottery Tickets Herbal Products 21 years of age to purchase: Alcoholic beverages Non – Alcoholic beer Wine Coolers All persons appearing to be under the age of 30 wishing to purchase any of the items listed above, MUST provide one of the following: o State Issued Driver’s license or non-driver’s ID that MUST be scanned with legal age equipment. o If the license or ID will NOT scan, you are not to make the sale. Military Identification or Passport The Identification log MUST be completed when a Military Identification or Passport is presented. If proper identification is not provided as detailed above, you are under no obligation to make the sale. Proper Identification procedures: o Ask guests purchasing tobacco products “Are you over 18?” or guests purchasing alcoholic beverages “Are you over 21?” o Ask for their identification, check over for alterations and compare picture to guest. o Scan the license using Legal Age equipment. If you make an illegal sale of any of the items listed above you can and will be subject to written warnings and possible termination. All legal fees, fines and other associated costs are the responsibility of the associate that makes the illegal sale. Additionally, you can be held liable for any fines and other economic sanctions suffered by NOCO that result from the illegal sale. NOCO WILL ALWAYS STAND BEHIND YOUR DECISION NOT TO MAKE A SALE. MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICE TO AVOID JAIL DON’T MAKE THE SALE. FAKE IDENTIFICATION You are not to make the sale if fake ID’s presented to you. D:\533570628.doc 12/15/2010 Cashing Selling Age Restricted Products ADDENDUM TO NOCO EXPRESS RESPONSIBLE SELLING POLICY All Herbal Products, Herbal Energy Supplements, and Herbal Health Care Items may not be sold to persons under 18 years of age, and may not be displayed on the front counter or other selfserve area. They must be held behind the counter where the cashier on duty can provide them to customers over the age of 18 who are eligible to purchase them. The sale of more than two bottles/packets at one time is prohibited. All over-the-counter Medicines and Health Care Products are to be sold with caution to persons under the age of 18. Such items include but are not necessarily limited to: o Cold Medicines, Cough Medicines, Headache Medicines, Stomach Medicines, Sleep Aids. o Please pay attention to the circumstances when selling these items to children, particularly if the child is very young, is purchasing large quantities or is frequently purchasing such items. Some of these contain alcohol. Others contain drug ingredients that can make children sick. If you are in doubt, refuse the sale pending parental permission. D:\533570628.doc 12/15/2010
