Lafourche Parish School Board
Office of Emergency Preparedness
Hurricane Plan
(Adaptable for all tropical activities)
Phase 1
Hurricane in the Atlantic or Caribbean
Plot & Watch
1)
Monitor all advisories and plot storm position.
2)
Keep in contact with the Lafourche Parish OEP Director.
Phase 2
Alert / Prepare
Hurricane Threat to the Gulf
Notifications
1)
We should receive a call from the Lafourche Parish OEP Director
2)
Activate essential personnel “Make sure radios or communications are
working between essential personnel & throughout the parish.”
Phase 3
Confirmed Threat to Lafourche Parish
(Tropical Storm / Hurricane Watch Issued)
Shelter Alerts
1)
Alert school administrators of threat. (Start making sure our sites are clear of
debris that can be thrown)
2)
Wait for call on possible shelter openings (Central Lafourche High,
Thibodaux High, and any other schools that may be needed.)
3)
Discuss the closure of schools. (Contact the Catholic School System in
regards to school closure.)
Phase 4
Evacuation
Tropical Storm or Hurricane Warning Issued for Lafourche Parish
(Tropical Storm or Hurricane Force Winds expected within 24 hours)
Full Activation
Shelters Open
1)
Schools need to be closed. (School administrators will be responsible for
making sure the school is properly secured.)
2)
Remove busses out of flood zones. (Discuss with Royce Doucet)
3)
All Emergency Preparedness Staff will report to the School Board Office to
be briefed on the situation. (At this time, you will receive the necessary
paperwork to document your activities throughout the Emergency.)
4)
Brit & Terry will prepare the proper equipment to be transported to
Bossier City in order to keep our web page and payroll up to date.
5)
Times of shelter OPENINGS will be determined.
6)
School administrators, of shelter sites, will be responsible in helping
the Lafourche Parish Government prepare the shelter to be opened.
7)
Start taking people into the shelter. (School Board Employees will not be
required to stay at the shelter. If an employee stays at the shelter, it will
be voluntary.) The Shelter will be turned over to the Parish Government.

Recovery / Damages Assessment
Update reports and logs
1)
Wait to receive call from Hurricane Head Quarters to clear out Shelter of all
Non-Governmental Employees and/or Non-School Board Staff. Once done,
update the Hurricane Head Quarters (Parish Government building in
Raceland 537-7603.)

Once all Non-Governmental Employees and/or Non-School Board Staff are
gone from the Shelter, make sure Shelter is cleaned and put back to normal.

All maintenance, janitors, school administrators, and essential employees will
be required to contact and/or report to the School Board Office once the
Parish Government has cleared Lafourche Parish for residents to return. At
this time, we will meet to discuss our recovery plan. (All School Board
employees will need to refer to the School Board website for information
and/or contact their supervisor.)
School administrators, as well as janitors, will need to assess their schools for
possible damages immediately after the storm. Damages should be reported to
the Safety Manager / Maintenance Supervisor, Seth Holloway (447-7236).
Disaster Recovery Teams, formed from the maintenance department, will be
assigned to schools throughout the parish to assess and repair any damages
that may have occurred from the storm. (Pictures and FEMA documentation
will need to be done.)
The effectiveness and efficiency of our disaster teams, will allow us to get our student
back into the classroom as soon as possible.
