Decision by President Reg.no. 837/01.01.06.01/2013 16 December 2013 Appendix 1 TRANSLATION AALTO UNIVERSITY INCENTIVE SCHOLARSHIPS FOR DOCTORAL CANDIDATES DURING 1 JANUARY 2014 – 31 DECEMBER 2017 The criteria of awarding Aalto University incentive scholarships apply to doctoral candidates in School of Arts, Design and Architecture, School of Chemical Technology, School of Electrical Engineering, School of Engineering and School of Science. The School of Business has individual incentives for doctoral candidates. Incentive scholarships will be awarded as follows 500 euro scholarship for doctoral candidate for the first scientific article or artistic work included in the dissertation, in which the doctoral candidate is one of the main authors, published on a publication forum specified by the Aalto school. Publication forums are defined by each School. 500 euro scholarship for doctoral candidate who has, within one year and six months of being admitted to doctoral programme, completed the studies (40 cr) in accordance with his/her individual study plan approved for the doctoral degree. or for doctoral candidate who has, within two years of being admitted to doctoral programme, completed the studies (60 cr) in accordance with his/her individual study plan approved for the doctoral degree. 2,000 euro scholarship for completing the doctoral degree, provided the following conditions are met within eight full semesters of being admitted to doctoral programme: The candidate has completed the studies in accordance with his/her individual study plan approved for the doctoral degree and the Doctoral Programme Committee or equivalent body has appointed the preliminary examiners for the dissertation manuscript. If the dissertation includes a separately examined artistic work it is required for granting the scholarship that the doctoral candidate has, within nine full semesters of being admitted to doctoral programme, completed the studies approved for the doctoral degree in accordance with his/her individual study plan and the Doctoral Programme Committee or equivalent body has appointed the preliminary examiners for the dissertation manuscript. or for completing the doctoral degree, provided the degree was earned by the end of the calendar year the doctoral candidate turns 30. The time spent on maternity and parental leave as well as national military or non-military service completed may be excluded from the calculated duration of study. However, if the scholarship is age related no deduction is granted. The scholarships will be awarded according to the above-mentioned criteria for doctoral candidates who have met the conditions for receiving a scholarship during 1 January 2014 – 31 December 2017. The schools shall award scholarships based on the application made by the doctoral candidate. The application has to be submitted within six months of the fulfillment of the scholarship criteria.
