Learning Together, Achieving Together
8th September, 2015
To Parents/Carers of Year 10 Students
Dear Parent/Carer
EDUCATIONAL VISIT TO: UNIVERSITY OF EAST ANGLIA NORWICH – GCSE GEOGRAPHY
DATES: WEDNESDAY 13TH JULY 2016 – FRIDAY 15TH JULY 2016
As part of the GCSE Geography Course your son/daughter must carry out an element of fieldwork and
produce a report on this work. The fieldwork and report (which is completed under controlled assessment
conditions) account for 25% of the total examination mark.
In order to fulfill this component of the GCSE geography course we are offering all of the Year 10
Geography students the opportunity to attend a two night residential field course in Norfolk. We will be
staying at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. Whilst on the field course, the students will complete an
investigation into urban patterns and processes in the city of Norwich.
The provisional date for the trip is outlined at the top of this letter; however we are awaiting confirmation of
this date and will inform you of the finalised date in November. If there is any change, it will only be within
a couple of days of this date. A place has automatically been reserved for your son/daughter on this trip.
Details of this trip were outlined in the year GCSE options booklet, which was given to students and parents
during year 9. The group leaders responsible for the organisation of this visit will be Mr Ahmed to whom any
enquiries should be directed. This will be the 16th time that this trip has run. Each year the trip has proven
to be very successful trip, with many students considering it to be a highlight of their time at Oaks Park High
School.
The fieldwork course will be an intensive one with students starting work soon after arrival; carrying out
their research and completing follow up work each evening. However, there will time for supervised
recreation. Residential fieldwork provides an ideal setting for concentration on the controlled assessment
element of the geography syllabus. It also provides the opportunity for students to co-operate on group
tasks and live together away from home. For many, it will be their first encounter with an environment other
than that of their local area. I must stress the importance of excellent student behaviour and conduct during
this trip. All students will need to be sensible, reliable and hardworking.
The total cost of the trip is £145.00 per student, which includes all food, accommodation, transport and
insurance fees. A deposit of £25.00 per student will be required by Monday 9th November 2015. The
remaining balance will then be asked for in six installments of £20, spread over 6 months as detailed
below :Wednesday 9th December
Friday 8th January
Monday 8th February
Monday 7th March
Monday 11th April
Monday 9th May

Although it is possible to pay in instalments, you are also welcome to clear the total balance in one go if you
wish. For those paying in installments, please provide post dated cheques covering all the six
payments (these should be given in with the deposit)
The School can also accept on-line payments for trips – if you have not already registered for this service
please email finance@oakspark.redbridge.sch.uk for your login details.
As this trip is a core part of the curriculum, please contact us in writing if you feel that you will have
difficulty meeting the cost and we can discuss the matter.
Cheques should be made payable to OAKS PARK HIGH SCHOOL and your son’s/daughter’s
name and form written on the reverse side. PAYMENTS SHOULD BE POSTED IN THE “TRIP
PAYMENTS” BOX OUTSIDE THE MAIN OFFICE IN A SEALED, LABELLED ENVELOPE.
Please confirm on the reply slip at the bottom of this page that you wish*/do not wish* your son/daughter
to take part in this visit. If your son/daughter is to take part, you will be required to complete (at Yr10
parents evening) a Parental Consent Form in line with Health and Safety regulations. Please note that NO
student will be allowed to go on this visit unless the Parental Consent Form is completed,
signed and returned to the school office.
A full itinerary will be supplied to each student taking part in this visit together with suggested clothes,
pocket money etc nearer the time.
Should you have any concerns, or wish to discuss any of the above, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Yours sincerely
Mr F Ahmed
Head of Geography
