Read a biography on any famous person who interests you. You will use Power Point or
SMARTNotebook to complete this project by ____________________.
o
Your presentation needs to be a minimum of six slides including a title slide , the
Important Poem slide, the timeline slide, at least 2 biography slides, and a final Works
r
Cited slide. Once you have finished reading the biography you may use other sources on
your famous person to complete this project. Any sources you use must be listed on your
t
final ‘Works Cited’ page of your presentation. You will present to the class the week the
project is due.
Slide 1: Title Slide
This slide should include the title of the biography, the author, your name and a picture of
the famous person.
Slide 2: Important Book Poem
Earlier this year, we read The Important Book by Margaret Wise Brown. Use this as a
model and write a poem entitled “The Important Thing” using your famous person as the
subject of the poem.
Example:
The important thing about______________________is that he was_______________.
He ________________________________________________________________ .
He ________________________________________________________________ .
He ________________________________________________________________ .
But the important thing about_________________ is that he was ________________ .
Here is an example poem:
The important thing about Sir Francis Drake is that he was an English explorer.
He was the first Englishman to circumnavigate the world.
He followed secret orders from Queen Elizabeth as a pirate who attacked Spanish ships
and towns.
He later became Vice-Admiral of the English navy as commanded by the queen.
But, the most important thing about Sir Francis Drake is that he was an English explorer.
Slide 3: Timeline
Include a timeline of your famous person’s life. Show a minimum of 8 important events.
Include clip art for at least 4 events.
Slides 4-? Biography Report
The rest of the slides will include a minimum of 15 bullet points detailing the important
information you read in your biography. You will need to include:
-a background of the famous person
-his/her contributions to society
-why you chose that person.
You should not copy down word-for-word any section of the text; instead, take a section
you want to include and rewrite it in your own words.
Final Slide: Works Cited
On this slide you need to include the biography you read as well as any other sources of
information in order to give credit to those authors. Use the following APA format:
Books:
Author(s) or Editor(s) (last name, first initials). (Year of publication). Title of book. City of publication:
Publisher.
Websites:
Author(s) of article. (Date Published, Copyright Date or Last Revision). Title of document. Name of
Website. Retrieved Date accessed online, from URL of website
Part 2: Public Speaking
Once you have finished your Power Point, you will present the information to the class.
The purpose of this activity is to give you an opportunity to meet your benchmark in public
speaking. See the rubric for specific grading criteria.
