Saving Earth A lot of resources in this world are being taken for granted by people in this day and age. These resources are being used up quickly due to being used so carelessly everyday by citizens all over the world. Without a second thought, Oil is disappearing quickly because it is used for so many things in everyday life; like gas. If people were considerate and could come up with a way to save our oil resources, we would have a lot less problems on earth, and our populations and planet itself may last longer.(.Q 1) Using Corn Ethanol for vehicles to run on would not only preserve oil by about 9.28 million barrels a day, but would also better the environment and save the earth. (Q.2) Although not all oil would be preserved, a good amount would be. When oil is used for gas in vehicles it emits it into the air and the environment and harms it. The environment is harmed due to the gas letting off chemicals into the air and polluting it, this is called greenhouse gases. Not only do people breathe in this polluted air, but the green house gas gives off a warming affect which furthers global warming and damaging our earth. It is said that there are only 3.7 trillion barrels of oil left in the group to be dug up, and using 20 million a day like we do, saving 9.28 million of that 20 could really make a difference and improve the environment. There is a solution that could benefit the population and earth, while saving oil. That solution is Corn Ethanol. America could start using Corn Ethanol to fuel vehicles instead of oil and gases. This would prevent us from sending U.S. dollars over to other countries to get oil, and postpone global warming effects on the environment. Our resources don’t have to go to waste when there are alternatives to better the air for people to breathe in as well. Although there are many pros to switching to Corn Ethanol to fuel vehicles, there can be a few cons as well. Corn would be more of a demanded product now that it would not only be used for consumption, but for fueling as well. Since it would be in more demand, the price for corn would surely raise from supermarket to supermarket. Another issue that we would run into is crop land. A lot more corn would need to be grown and produced if it’s in greater demand, and this would require farmers to grow more and more acres of it. We may not have the extra land or supplies to do this though, because land is not infinite. Gas prices would also rise during the winter season for some parts of the world. Corn crops would have a hard time growing in winter and snowy/cold conditions, thus raises the price of gas drastically for a few months each year in certain countries or states. Using Corn Ethanol has a few drawbacks, but we have to ask ourselves, can we suffer them to save our environment and resources?(Q. 3)(Q. 4) Q.5) I find that most people think that they alone, cannot make a difference and that pollution, and global warming is inevitable, when it isn’t. Most of our generation and even other generations need to be educated that there are solutions and alternatives to things like using precious resources for gas. All it takes is someone like me to educate others and spread the word about issues and solutions like this one about Corn Ethanol. Another action that I could take to make sure an alternative method is taken is to take the time to figure out how I can propose the Corn Ethanol idea to car manufactures. I think designing a car that would only run off of Corn Ethanol would not only be a good idea, but would also enlighten people around the state and country that the option is possible. Also, by having a car, or many cars that run off of it, it is more likely for people to take part in saving the environment. If I can get my message across to the citizens and more importantly, the car manufactures, every car in the future may run off of Corn Ethanol instead of oil.(Q. 6) All in all, we don’t have to accept oil resources running out, or the environment being harmed because there’s something we can do about it. Switching to Corn Ethanol will preserve oil and enhance the overall well-being of the air and environment, and help us treat the world as if we intended to stay on it forever. There may be some drawbacks, but we won’t be able to improve on anything if we don’t try.
