MILLEDGEVILLE COMMUNITY GARDEN RULES
The foundation for these rules is simple – be a good neighbor. If you tend your plots well, keep them well
weeded (including the pathway at your plot’s edge) and harvested, you will make an invaluable
contribution to the community” which is at the heart of our garden. Welcome!
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS














The garden is open from sunrise to sunset.
Shut-off all water after use. No overnight watering.
Water hoses must be attended at all times. Water sprinklers are NOT permitted.
No pets are allowed in the garden.
Do not drive in the garden. There will be several designated “drop-off” days when the garden
will be accessible by car.
No non-organic pesticides, herbicides, rodenticides (see list below for allowed products)
The community compost pile is available for all plots. Please add your weeds, plants and other
compostable materials to the pile.
Please do not plant non-native invasive species. If you are not certain a species is allowed check
http://gainvasives.org
Do not pick from any plot other than your own.
If you use community tools, please return them to the storage area when finished.
If you are the last to leave the garden please make sure all locks are closed.
Some work should begin on your plot within two weeks following registration of your plot.
There is no smoking in the gardens or parking area. Tobacco mosaic virus, which can be carried
on people’s hands, is a serious threat to tomatoes and other plants.
The Garden Coordinator will contact plot renters in the event of problems
PLOT DESIGN





Keep the pathways around your plot neat and accessible for other gardeners.
Tall crops should be planted where they will not cast shade on neighboring plots
Woody shrubs and trees are not allowed in plots.
Structures (trellises, hoops, supports, hardscape) should be at least 1and1/2 feet inside plot
edges.
Pressure treated or other treated or painted wood may not be used.
PLOT MAINTENANCE




If your plot is overgrown with weeds, you will receive a warning. After 3 warnings, your plot may
be reassigned.Plot-holders will be responsible for tilling and amendments of their plot.
Plots need to be well-tended throughout the season, including weeding and harvesting of
vegetables.
Paths between plots should be kept open and accessible to all.
Commonly used acceptable mulches include straw, hay, black plastic or weed barrier mats,
newspaper (not glossy, and covered with an organic mulch), seaweed, grass clippings (not
chemically treated), and other organic mulches.



Garden plots must be cleared of all structures, plastic, weed barrier mats and crops when you
vacate your plot
Specific plots may be unavailable in subsequent seasons, due to the need for soil maintenance
and amendment.

*The garden is transitioning to an organic garden. This means we will be treating the garden as if it is
organic and application of synthetic pesticides and herbicides will be substituted with natural
alternatives.

The undersigned adult on behalf of themselves, their child and/or children agree to protect, defend,
indemnify and hold harmless the Milledgeville Community Garden Association, its officers, officials,
employees and agents from any and all claims, demands, suits, penalties, losses, damages, judgments or
costs of any kind whatsoever (hereinafter “claims”) arising out of or in any way resulting from the
activities of said individual in the Milledgeville Community Garden except for those acts or commissions
which are the sole negligence of the Milledgeville community Garden Association.
