TEMPERATURE AND HEAT EXPERIMENT Prepared By: (Group 5) Diez, Orzales, Doniza, Orejas Physics III Adviser: Mrs. Maria Ruth R. Edradan Date Performed: February 11, 2014 Section: III-Newton RESPONSES FROM THE 8 GROUPS: Follow-up question: What happens to the food coloring after you release a small amount of liquid with food coloring? (1pt.) Guide Questions: 1. What happens to the food coloring after placing the container above the other container? Why does this happen? (2pts.) 2. What method/s of heat transfer is observed in this activity? (2pts.) 3. How is heat transfer taking place in the setup? Where is heat coming from and where is it going? (5pts.) GROUP 1: Suarez, Zerda, Berte, Rivas Follow-up question: It suspended at the bottom of the water. Guide Questions: 1. The food colorings from the bottom rose up and went up at the top causing it to dispersed on the solution. This happened because the heat of the hot water below it transferred on the tap water or due to the process convection. 2. Convection 3. The heat from the hot water transferred to the tap water and subsequently the hot water was cooled. In other words, they have exchanged heat. The heat came from the container containing tap water. GROUP 2: Labe, Lacanaria, Apalisok, Codilla Follow-up question: The food coloring stays put in the bottom of the container. Guide Questions: 1. It rose and spread because there was heat transfer happened. 2. Conduction 3. Heat from the container with hot water transferred to the cardboard, then the heat from the cardboard transferred to the container containing the food coloring. The cold water with food coloring rose to the top because it was heated. GROUP 3: Leones, Nalzaro, Cuares, Leyson Follow-up question: It stays at the bottom of the container. Guide Questions: 1. The food coloring rises and starts to mix with the tap water. It happens because the heat from the hot water transfers to the container above. 2. Conduction 3. The heat from the hot water transfers to the cardboard and transfers to the container above which has the tap water. Heat comes from the hot water to the cardboard and to the container above. GROUP 4: Quiño, Ibarra, Requirme, Yuipco Follow-up question: It was observed that the cold water with food coloring settled at the bottom part of the beaker. Guide Questions: 1. The food coloring goes up and it mixed gently. Because the molecules of the tap water was heated by container below containing the hot water. 2. Conduction and Convection 3. The heat was transferred from the beaker below containing the hot water to the cardboard then to the container above containing the tap water.. GROUP 6: Herrero, Bate, Hermoso, Petalcorin Follow-up question: No answer Guide Questions: 1. The food coloring which stayed at the bottom of the container of the tap water mixed all through out the water when the container was placed above the container of the hot water. It is because the heat from the hot water was transferred. 2. Conduction and Convection 3. When the container of the tap water was placed above the container of the hot water, there is heat transfer. The heat is coming from the hot water and it’s going to the container with tap water. GROUP 7: Alag, Aliguay, Cano, Ma Follow-up question: The food coloring stayed at the bottom of the container with the tap water as we pressed the dropper at the bottom. Guide Questions: 1. The food coloring rises up and mixed with tap water when the container with tap water was placed above the container with hot water. This happened because the heat from the hot water made the food coloring rise. 2. Conduction and convection 3. The heat from the hot water was transferred to the cardboard. Then, the heat from the cardboard was transferred to the beaker filled with tap water. GROUP 8: Coscos, Larong, Pulido, Santiago Follow-up question: The food coloring stayed at the bottom of the container with the tap water Guide Questions: 1. The food coloring rose to the top of the water from the bottom where it is settled earlier. This happens because of the heat transfer and change of temperature occurring in the container of the tap water. 2. Convection 3. Heat from the hot water rose to the top of its container and “moved up” to the container with food coloring. When can see that the food coloring rose to the top of the glass supposedly because it is cold. Heat comes from the container with hot water and went up to the tap water. GROUP 9: Quines, Laurente, Meneses, Tremedal Follow-up question: The food coloring stays at the bottom of the container with the water. Guide Questions: 1. The food coloring slowly rises up to the surface of the water. When it is placed at the top of the hot container. The water pushes the food coloring that is settling at the bottom. 2. Convection 3. The heat was passed to the cardboard that also passes its heat to the container containing the tap water. When that happens, it pushes the food coloring, who is denser to the surface. The heat is coming from the water and is going to the top to release its heat and cool down making it absorbed by the other container.
