Day 5 – Quiz #1, Finish everyday use questions (after quiz), Journal Read A&P, (Author’s Voice) Officially
assign memoir project, Brainstorm Memoir Project Topics
Day 6 –Mr. Sanford’s memoir example, Memoir writing.
Day 7 – Rough Draft Due –, Make turnitin.com account Check each draft for completion, peer editing, fill
out a SOAPSTONE for partner’s paper and evaluate effectiveness (workshop grade)
Day 8 – Workshop day 2. Revisions/one on one meetings, typing into turnitin.com
Day 10 – Journal, Assign Quiz 2, Read A Rose for Emily (Theme), annotate/discussion/questions, finish
memoirs if needed
Day 11 – Journal, Hemmingway’s past, Read Hills Like White Elephants, Omission/Understatement, class
discussion/questions
Day 12 – Quiz #2 Journal, Read The Feeling of Power (Irony). SOAPStone, Questions.
Day 13 – Journal (Favorite Song Lyrics), Poetry day.

2nd Six Weeks (11 Blocks)
Day 1 – Gestures/blocking/structure in oratory, have them do it
Day 2 – Tone/facial expressions, have them do it.
Day 3- Practice intro

Day 6- Work on problem
Day 7- Work on problem (email by the end of the night)
Day 8- Revisions/work on cause
Day 9 – work on cause
Day 10 – Practice performing problem + intro
Day 11 – Perform Intro/problem
Day 12 – Perform
3rd Six weeks (11 Blocks)
Day 1 – work on cause
Day 2 – work on cause (due in email)
Day 3 – Revision of whole speech
Day 4 – Practice cause

4th Six weeks (14 ½)
Day 1 – Reintroduction to arguments, claim/data/warrant, four corners, debate!
Day 2 – Recover logical fallacies, focus on rebuttal techniques, offense vs. defense. Show
movies/debates to show fallacies/rebuttals/offense/defense.
Day 3 – Research for controversial issues. With a partner, find one article from EBSCO for and, one
against, outline the most compelling arguments and the least compelling arguments of both. Explain
which side you agree with and why. (Daily Grade)
Day 4 – Mini-debates on controversial issues, partner v. partner. (Daily grade)
Weird C Day – Introduce Debate topic for Supplemental! Brainstorm ideas.
Day 5 – Introduce structure of supplemental. Demonstrate how to structure a case, quality of research,
ect. Show examples from varsity?
Day 6 – Aff research/writing
Day 7 – Aff research/writing
Day 8 – Aff research/writing (Quiz grade for effort)
Day 9 – Neg research/writing
Day 10- Neg research/writing
Day 11 – Neg research/writing
Day 12 – Turn in rough drafts of cases (Major grade)
Day 13 – Share cases with partners, create list of 5 offensive and 5 defensive arguments that you would
make against the case. Brainstorm on how to respond to those arguments. (Daily grade)
Day 14 – Research blocks
5th Six Weeks – (starts on 2/21) 15 ½
Day 1 – Discuss best arguments that we’ve heard from the class and how they might be answered. Focus
on offense/defense. Identify which arguments need better evidence, assertions vs. arguments.

Day 4 – Debates
Day 5 – Debates
Day 6 – Debates (quiz)
(Spring break)
Day 7 – Review debates. More flowing practice Discuss how to write a block, write one as a class.

Day 3- Interp, talk about movies/literature that you like. Why do you like it? “What makes an engaging
story?” Beginning/middle/end
Day 4- Library/looking for literature that you like (bring your own stuff from home)
Day 5 – Library
Day 6 – Story arc (exposition, rising action, climax, resolution) email to teacher
Day 7 – Revision of story arc
Day 8 – Cutting
Day 9 – Cutting
Day 10 – Send cutting to teacher/revision
Day 11 – Perform (have piece in binder, cut, pasted, etc.)
Day 12 – Perform
