Casa di Amici : Painting Holiday in Umbria
Thurs 13 – 20 Sept 2012
Painting Programme
This painting holiday is suitable for oil/acrylic painters of all levels of experience, but is
not suitable for complete beginners.
Your tutor
Your painting tutor is Mark Beaven M.A., who will provide expert technical and artistic
support and guidance. Mark trained at Chelsea and Camberwell Colleges of Art in London.
He is an experienced, qualified teacher, having taught as a visiting lecturer in adult,
further and higher education for over twenty years. He has also tutored for The Open
College of Arts, and is a contributing writer for The Artist magazine. He is passionate
about drawing and painting, and inspiring others to develop the skills to express their
own visual experiences. For more information, please visit his website:
www.nottinghamartstudio.co.uk . There will be individual tuition given during painting
sessions, as well as group tuition and discussion at the beginning and end of the day.
Painters of all levels of experience are welcome.
On one of the days there will an optional cultural excursion to one of the many artistic
centres in the area (e.g. Florence, Rome, Orvieto etc) (for which travel and ticket prices
will be additional), or just stay and paint or relax in Ficulle if you prefer! On one evening
we will also sample the fine cuisine at a local restaurant.
Painting sessions
There are great painting opportunities in and around Ficulle, whether amongst the old
buildings and streets, the olive groves and vineyards or the landscape views across the
Umbrian hills.
Morning and late afternoon offer good light for painting sessions, when the sun is lower in
the sky, giving depth and colour to the landscape. Morning painting sessions each day will
be from approx 9.30-12noon. Lunch is at 1pm, and the afternoon is time to relax, read
talk or explore! The afternoon painting sessions are from 4 to about 6pm. On return to
Casa di Amici, there will be an opportunity for a brief group discussion about the day’s
painting. Supper is at 7.30pm. On the first evening Mark will introduce the painting
programme and discuss any queries.
There will also be opportunities to paint in the surrounding areas beyond Ficulle.
