looking for motivated young undergraduates to work on a project lying at the interface of genomics,
genome evolution and machine learning. Work will include the technical support of and data analysis
for a computational genomics project co-funded by the European Union and National Funds under
the framework of plan "Aristeia II".
The project extends in various facets of computational biology ranging from algorithm development
and optimization, database management and modeling of gene expression and genome arhitecture
evolution. The ideal candidate should hold a MSc preferably in Bioinformatics/Computational
Biology or alternatively in Informatics/Computer Science with a proven focus on computational
genomics. Expertise in big data analysis and database management are desirable qualities.
Knowledge of molecular biology, genomics and evolution is to be considered a plus. Candidates

• Strong experience with statistical programming languages such as R, Matlab/Octave
Experience with Next Generation Sequencing Data Analysis/Gene expression Analysis is highly
preferable.
The expected starting date is early 2014.
Initial appointment is for 2 years with the possibility of extension. Highly motivated candidates may
carry on into a PhD candidacy prior to the end of the term provided appropriate funding extension
is obtained.
